I have not even started the game(I just got diamond)- my ds is getting its first charge as we speak- but I have read on other forums that cheating is pretty common online. I played Red/Blue/Yellow and some of the Gold/Silver but I was hoping that my big jump into the newer games would not be marked by a lot of cheating online. I have considered using AR if there is no other way to get multiples of certain TMs but I'd be really pissed off if I ran into a lv 99999999 Mewtwo or something online. So....

Is there cheating online and if so how much?

Thanks guys/gals and hopefully my DS is about done charging and I can start up the game soon ^^. PS: Would it be possible to import a surfing pikachu from yellow (perhaps by trading yellow>gold>emerald>diamond or something?)? Those were the coolest pokemon in the world.

I'm not entirely sure about the amount of cheating there is online, but IIRC Nintendo has modified something on their server to prevent that from happening. Something to do with bans, but I'll let someone else clarify that.

As for the surfing Pikachu, you can't trade it from Yellow. 1st gen is only compatiable with 2nd gen in trading and 3rd gen an one way Pal Park migration to 4th.
The only way to get a legit surfing Pikachu in D/P right now is from playing Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii and winning it as a prize and then transferring it to D/P.

Is there a legit way of getting multiples of any useful tm? That would be the only thing that could make me turn to AR....I'm really hoping there is a system for buying them or getting them from that wii pokemon stadiumesque game.

    To answer both questions:
Cheating is not very common over wifi. Since you pre-arrange all your games you will usually know the person and ask them not to use hacks. Most people here are pretty trustworthy here anyway. As for PBR on wii they have a filtering system so you cannot use hacks

As with most games, DP has a cloning glitch. This is detailed in the FAQ stickied in this section. If you attatch the required tm to the poke then clone it, et voila, you'll have two :)

    All true answers. :)

    But beware. The GTS is full of hacked Pokemon. Also, if you're going to clone for TM's, I'd suggest searching for Dialga / Palkia level 9 and under. Otherwise, it might get stolen. ;.;

And there are also some dishonest people who trade hacks and say they're legit. =(

Just be careful online, trust only people you know and you should be fine. If someone here traded you a hacked Pokemon, don't hesitate to tell a moderator ;).

well it depends who you play against, people on here tend not to cheat.

you wont come across level 9999999 mewtwos lmao xD, the worst you will get is wonder guard spiritomb (which actually is easily combated, yay for gastro acid)

Whe was the last time anyone used gasto acid lol
Mold breaker pinsir is a more common "counter". still, no-one really uses them, they're cheap

    lol xD

i sometimes use it in double battles, gastro on regimoss. perhaps gastro on the oponent if they use something like a shedinja (for some reason, i seem to come against a lot of shedinjas... lol)

i guess its just handy to have there just incase, but not really use it much in battle unless needed

well, last year i fought some well respected members of this site (they're currently not active here i guess) and they used action replayed pokemon. so they all had perfect IVs, thats kinda cheating.

the worst battle i had was when i was a frequant poster on another forum. there team went something like this:

    Charizard (maxed out speed stat)
    trait- bad dreams
    moves-
    dark void
*cant remember the others but was something like flame thrower, dream eater, and something else*

then the other pokemon were just stupid:

    arceus
    darkrai
    deoxys (normal form)
    mewtwo
    giratina

i mean ffs people, not only are you nooby enough to use nothing but ubers, but you hack them.... and give them rediculous uber movesets. how much must you SUCK to need to do all that to beat a couple of people

I'll admit that I've hacked before, and still do occasionally, but never past the normal boundaries of the game. Maybe for items, such as Rare Candies and EV Adding items, or to get Event Pokemon, since I usually don't go get to go to other events, but even so, I won't trade them. It's all a matter of how far you're willing to go.

I don't have as much time to EV train Pokemon as I like. so instead, I hack the items to give me more EV's, to make the process quicker.

and then there are those that bypass the 510 EV Limit, who cheat and hack absurd movesets, as mentioned above...

TY for the info about online and the duplicating TM glitch. Looks like I won't need to go out and buy an AR. I'm disapointed that this blasted strat guide (from prima games) does not have any real pokedex with stat listings and moves lol. It is driving me crazy. I am trying to build up a solid, hard attacking infernape but I have a little question: is nasty plot worth it on a very offensive infernape? It raises special attack 2 stages (I'm not sure exactly what "2 stages" means) and I'm not sure how long it lasts....but would that even be worth it or should I just keep wailing on my opponent with Close Combat/Overheat/Flamethrower/etc?? In previous games I almost never buffed offensive stats so I am wondering if nasty plot is worth the time.

nasty plot is awesome on a infernape.

but check which is higher by default, attack or special attack. if the base attack stat is better then teach is swords dance instead, and focus on physical type moves (this makes a awesome combination with close combat)

I'm currently trying to run this setup on my Infernape, Nero.

    Nero@Life Orb
    Naive
    210 Attack/ 170 Sp. Attack/ 130 Speed
    Flare Blitz
    Close Combat
    Swords Dance
    Grass Knot

see, in this generation, you've got to look for moves that are either Physical, or Special. Grass Knot is a special, so we'll only use it to counter Rock/Ground and Water types you might come across.

if you can, get in a Swords Dance or two, and then use Close Combat and Flare Blitz(both Physical, since they use the attack stat, which was upped by Swords Dance) and attempt to sweep the opponents team.

Like Peanutassailant said Look at the better Stat, If it's Special Attack, go for Nasty Plot and if it's Attack go for Swords Dance, it's your best bet.

Edit: I've just seen your team. Nice Idea and I really agree with it. You should sweep well with those Stats and Moves ;).

    I was thinking

    Close Combat
    Nasty Plot
    Overheat
    Fire Blast

It is hard because both infernapes attack and Special attack are exactly the same naturally. I still don't see the point in using nasty plot/swords dance > attack INSTEAD OF attack > attack most of the time ; ;. Do Swords/Plot buffs REALLY help that much?? I have not seen them in DP yet. My infernape will be natured(lonely) so that his attack grows faster but I'm not sure if it evens out at lv 100 with his other stats or if being "lonely" actually means he will have higher attack at lv 100 than a normal infernape. No guides I have read really explain if it just levels up the stat faster or if at the end of the game you actually have more of that stat than normal.
