Kaizo RomHacks
- Complete each of the three fabled RomHacks (Blue, Crystal, and Emerald)
- Can be combined with Traditional or Hardcore Nuzlocke rules for extreme challenge
Traditional Nuzlocke
- If a Pokemon faints, it must retire (be permanently PC boxed)
- Only the first Pokemon encountered in each area may be caught
- Every Pokemon must be nicknamed
- Shiny Pokemon may always be caught (but only used if it was the first Pokemon encountered in the area)
- If the entire team faints, the player loses and the run is over
Hardcore Nuzlocke
- All traditional Nuzlocke rules apply
- Healing items cannot be used during battle
- Battle style must be changed to "set"
- Pokemon are level-capped and cannot exceed the next Gym leader's strongest Pokémon's level
Deathless Nuzlocke
- All traditional Nuzlocke rules apply with the following change:
- If any Pokemon faints, the player loses and the run is over
Randomized Run
- Complete any game using a randomizer
- Level of randomization can be dialed up or down based on preference/desired level of difficulty
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Monotype Run
- All Pokemon used during the run must share a type chosen at the start of the run
- The type cannot be changed mid-game
- Dual-type Pokemon are allowed on teams provided they have one type matching the chosen type
- One HM Toolkit Pokemon is allowed but can only be used when overworld HM use is required
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Daycare Run
- Only baby-stage Pokemon can be used in the run
- Pokemon cannot evolve
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Elementary Run
- All Pokemon must be a first-stage Pokemon (baby Pokemon do not count as "first stage")
- Pokemon cannot evolve
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Teenagers Run
- All Pokemon must be the middle stage of a three-stage evolutionary line
- Pokemon must reach stage 2 as quickly as possible (players can, thus, catch stage 1 Pokemon, but not stage 3) and then cannot evolve further
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Single Stage Run
- All Pokemon must be Single Stage (does not evolve to or from any other Pokemon)
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Bingo! Run
- Before beginning a game, players along with their friends/community as desired, create a Bingo card of things that could happen during play
- The run is successful when players achieve a "Bingo" on the card
Highlander Run
- The entire game must be completed with a single Pokemon (can evolve)
- A single HM Toolkit Pokemon is allowed but can only be used when overworld HM use is required
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Theme Run
- All Pokemon used must fit a theme decided upon before starting the game (examples: dogs, girlie pop, lizards, food, etc)
Speed Run
- Complete the game's main storyline as quickly as possible
Living Pokédex
- The challenge is completed when every available Pokemon on the game is captured
- Evolutionary lines must have a representative for each stage
Shiny Pokédex
- Capture every Pokemon in its Shiny form
- Can be done over multiple games and tracked in a spreadsheet if desired
Wonderlocke
- All traditional Nuzlocke rules apply with the following exception:
- Any captured Pokemon must immediately be traded over Wonder/Surprise trade. The received Pokemon is now the "caught" Pokemon for that area
- Can be made Hardcore as desired
Giftlocke
- A player's friends/community put together six Pokemon for the run to trade to the player as soon as possible; those Pokemon can be whatever the friends/community desire
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Wedlocke
- All traditional Nuzlocke rules apply with the following twist:
- Two Pokemon per area must be caught. These Pokemon are Partnered Pairs
- If one Pokemon is on the team, so must its Partner Pair
- If one Pokemon faints, both it and its Partner Pair must retire
Egglocke
- All traditional Nuzlocke rules apply with the following twist:
- Any caught Pokemon must be immediately replaced with a random egg. (These eggs can come from friends/community or be generated via RomHack.)
Genlocke
- The game must be completed using only Pokemon new to that generation. (For example: a HeartGold Genlocke could use Totodile, but not Rattata.)
SoulLink
- A Nuzlocke variant for two players. Best played on randomized roms.
- If one player fails a new area catch, both players have failed that catch.
- Successful catches are SoulBound. In order to battle, both Pokemon must be on their respective player's team. If one Pokemon faints, both must retire.
- If one player loses, both lose the run.
Flattery Run
- Player's team/pool of available Pokemon must be the same as an established, canonical character.
- Pokemon cannot exceed the evolutionary stage of their canon counterpart. (For example: a Jesse run could include Meowth on the team, but not Persian.)
Scavenger Run
- No purchases can be made in game.
- Only items found in the overworld or gifted to the player may be used (including Pokeballs)
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
TCG Run
- Purchase and open a sealed pack of Pokemon cards. Your team must be made up of the Pokemon on the cards.
- For extra challenge, lock the Pokémon's evolutionary stage to the card pulled. (For example, if a player opened a Pikachu card, it could not be evolved to Raichu.)
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
No STAB
- Pokemon cannot use STAB moves
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
PowerPlay
- Pokemon may only use damaging moves
- For extra challenge, all moves must be STAB
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
MonoColor
- All Pokemon on the team in this run must share a color classification (using the official Pokédex listing)
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
First Aid Specialist
- Pokemon Center healing is off limits. All healing must be done using items.
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
Empty Pockets
- Items (other than Pokeballs) cannot be used
- Player may never have more than 10 Pokeballs at a time
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
We Are Family
- All Pokemon on the team must be part of the same evolutionary line. (For example, a team could contain three Luxray, a Luxio, and a Shinx)
- Eevee is banned from this challenge
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
SmolBeans Run
- All Pokemon must have a Pokédex height of less than 3.03ft / 1m
- For added difficulty, decrease the height cap to approximately 2ft or 1ft.
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
TolFriends Run
- All Pokemon must have a Pokédex height of at least 2m
- For added difficulty, increase the minimum height requirement to 2.5m or 3m
- Can be combined with Nuzlocke rules as appropriate/desired
GrrlPower Run
- A traditional Nuzlocke with the following exception:
- A caught Pokemon can only be used if it's female
