"Computers & Technology just doesn't interest me"

Hey guys, I know I don't pop my head in here often, but I'd like to hear from you guys, if you don't mind. :)

So, I don't mean to go after anybody in particular with the thread title, but I have noticed that a large base of PC members never seem to visit the Computers & Technology section here. Is it perhaps because nobody here on PC is just never interested in discussing technology anymore, or perhaps members feel it's too intimidating and they're afraid they won't fit in at all? If either of those apply, it's something I'd like to see abolished so that the intimidation level is non-existent and the friendliness level is more existent.

So, for those that that do poke their heads in C&T from time to time: what do you like about the section? Dislike? Do you actively enjoy posting in there, with new thread ideas?

How about those that don't post in the section. Why don't you post in Computers & Technology? Are there things you believe could be improved on to perhaps enhance your posting experience, or maybe change your mind about not posting there?

As a moderator, I deeply value feedback, and I felt I could open up more to the members here to see what they have to say.

I like being there and talking about all the wonders of the world of the internet and modern technology, and even speaking of old throwbacks too. Even if I don't have many thread ideas.

i love technology. i like editing my tumblr with html, but i don't know how to have a conversation about html lol. i've posted a couple times in that section about the favorite websites and other stuff. i feel like i'm more of the computer graphics which is more art and design section.

I have sometimes rarely posted, but because I'm not that huge of an IT buff it's very hard for me to even find a topic I like so it explains my low activity over there. Although you have done a great job at reviving this once-dead area when you joined staff two years ago and have done so much to promote new things in the section.

I think C&T is a pretty cool forum and I post in there once in a while, just not on a daily basis. I love computers and tech, but even irl I wouldn't get into deep conversations about it. Simple topics I can do, but I won't go down much the deep end of like specs and that kinda cake.

I was wondering when this thread would show up. My disinterest in the section is mostly because of that weird split of interests regarding topics down there. Whenever I visit the forum, I can already tell, what people will be talking about: Smartphones, IPhones, Laptops, Tumblr and consorts and some random hardware related things, which basically covers everything I couldn't care less about in terms of technology.

Other topics, like programming and Linux (or even advanced Windows stuff), whenever they pop up, just die down really fast. A good example I'd this thread which clearly states that you don't even need to be able to programm to answer the question, yet it doesn't have a single reply.

It's one of those places I could post in but just don't have time or energy for. I guess I'm also not very techy so there's that.

Great responses you guys! :) Overall, I see people complaining about the "split" in threads. However, I have a question to you guys: how come y'all don't create these threads in the first place?!

How about an HTML help thread? :o Do you think you could perhaps help out with that?

Yes, simple topics are good, and preferable to me! I want to promote much more of those to garner some interest! Not just tech threads, but also internet threads like "which sites you use" or even have a home to share a simple video you find online (as long as it's not created by you, of course :P)

Maybe what you could do is perhaps gather a group of people who might be interested in programming here and point them to C&T? I'd like to see more programming-related threads myself.

As for the thread you linked to, :( yeah, that's an easy thread. I'll reply to it sometime though, since I was busy with school when it was created.

I guess I'm also not very techy so there's that.
This is something I want to be eliminated. I don't want a person that is tech-illiterate to be swept away simply because they don't understand a thing that's being talked about. Something on my mind is perhaps a running dictionary of terms that people can contribute to, that way some terms may be better to understand.

While I do make the occasional post in there, I don't post in absolutely every thread simply because it doesn't interest me. If I'm going somewhere technical, it's more than likely Rom Hacking-related, or else something to do with programming, which I have only a base knowledge of.
It's okay if you don't post in every single thread. There are some threads that don't interest me at all either, but are still within grounds.

I should post there. I end up in discussions about C&T irl a lot too, so I should definitely post more there. It's my goal for the coming weeks, along with just posting in more places in general.

I don't really have a preference, to be honest. I just posted in whatever thread I find interesting. If there's a thread in C&T I like or whatever, I'll post. If I have an idea for a thread, then I usually post about it. I don't really spend a lot of time there though. It's a nice place though. :3

I think if anything though, I post in The Treehouse more than I do any other place.

I don't actively follow new tech releases, so contributing to those discussions is something I've often not got an opinion on.

Also, in my personal posting hierarchy, C&T as a whole is in the second tier of sections and threads I check (first tier is Forum Games, TCG, A&M, and random threads I've posted in recently outside those areas).

Just wondering, but what kinds of threads do you find interesting? I'd like to know that way I can ensure more threads of such matter continue to appear often. :)

Advanced technology is confusing to me so I stay clear of the section - maybe if you rename the section to seem less... "ALL WE DISCUSS IS COMPUTERS AND TECHNOLOGY" then it might be more appealing but I'm really not sure what you'd rename it to haha. The lighter discussions like the website threads/general questions are always fun but in general the section seems kind of intimidating, to me at least! Also most of the general threads like "what is your ringtone" end up feeling like TT threads and I'm never sure where to find/answer them, so again I feel like a little bit of re-branding could help!

Hm. I'm not really sure. I guess examples would be like "How often you charge your phone" or something of that nature really. I can't exactly give good examples without actually going into the thread and looking. I'm more interested in discussion topics like what you would find in The Treehouse, but they would be about computers & technology obviously. XD That is, if it makes sense anyway. I'm so bad at explaining things, sorry. D:
