Suggestion: Creative Chat

So I was talking to a certain someone (who will hopefully make their way to this thread soon) about the idea of having a linked Creative section Chat thread. I honestly have no idea if it's possible to link the same thread across various sections but wanted to give it a shot in suggesting it. n__n;

Since a lot of the creative sections are pretty quiet (such as the Art Gallery and FF&W), we were thinking of creating a chat thread that would be "linked" across the entire creative board (as I mentioned earlier) to perhaps bring up some more activity to each of the creative areas. Creating a single chat board for each of the creative sections will likely make them fall inactive since people feel like they're limited to talking only about one subject... that and we've got the hugely popular OCD DCC already. But with a linked Creative chat, I feel like people who are writers, artist, musicians, roleplayers, and so on can come together and just talk to each other while showing off some of their WIPs.

I'm not sure if this'll conflict with already-existing discussion threads like the Roleplay Discussion Thread, but wanted to go ahead and leave it here. Though I totally understand if this isn't possible or isn't a good idea. But as an artist and writer, I'd really love to bring more activity into the awesome creative sections we have here at PC.

I'm all for merging more of the art sections, which is something I'd like to see happen, but I don't think a "Creative Chat" like that would work on the forum the way it stands. If there were to be a day where more of the art sections get merged I'd like to see a Creative Chat sticky, which would be open to more than just digital artists, but musicians and all art forms, because I agree with you, art is a broad spectrum now, with too many mediums. So one thing I'd push to see happen would be for a change up in the Art Gallery, followed by the addition of such a thread.

Right now though, I'm not sure it would work, or if it would have a place.

1) Music chat thread? Totally for it, and in fact, we have it - Musician's Corner in Other Clubs, run by CarefulWetPaint (imma link to it sometime later). It's a place where you can show off your music and discuss how to improve your music and discuss making music. The C&M creative Media Showcase is also a good place, though it's not much of a place to show WIP's so the club might be a better "discussion" thread.

2) Writer's thread? I believe there's two stickies for that (one in Writer's and one in Roleplay), but I'm totally for a linked thread, since writers and role-players are both authors, but just for different reasons. Other than that I dunno.

I just think separating different art forms would be a bit better, since not all artists are fluent in every different art form. For example, if I were to rate writing I would probably suck, while I would make concise reviews of music. Not to he segregationist but I think keeping them apart would be something better to do. But then again, having a universal opinion on something that you made would be nice.

I'm just here to say I second this notion, but I don't think literally merging all the art sections into a single forum would work as that would get too clutter-y, unless you wanted to merge them all into a subforum in which you make sub-subforums. As you can see, that's a tad complicated and confusing. A linked chat thread would be nice.

Contrary to what droomph said, it's not all that confusing. Seriously, it's not like writers only write just as artists don't only draw. They all have different skills, but they aren't limited to only one, so it would be nice to get some other opinion and discussers (I can't believe that's an actual word) in. It might even interest some people. The whole point is to promote activity. FF&W had a daily chat simply for the Writing Blitz, which ended a month ago. And while you claim there is a Musician's chat (basically a club), it's harder for newer members to find it. Actually, I never even knew we had one, so the thread could bring that together. The chat isn't all about one thing.

The chat isn't about criticizing other people or displaying your own work. I'm sure each separate forum has their own thread for that. (At least in FF&W, we have a thread for it.) It's just discussing things. Now, there could be a limited range of topics to satisfy everyone who would frequent that thread, but it could also help people be acquainted with different arts. There could be specific topics involving a certain type of art, which could gear interest to that. Of course, that might not always happen, but you can always hope it would. Besides, there isn't any harm in discussing things. You might even learn a thing or two, seeing as I know nothing about criticizing music except by determining if I like a song or not.

(Still wondering if a linked thread is possible across certain forums.)

Well I never said it was a bad idea.

Personally though I would much rather prefer that we keep the forums separate because stuff. (like, the Tutorials forum is three forums in, so making it four forums in is just kinda weird. Though the staff can do whatever the hell they want.)

And seeing that Sydian is modded in five forums but is technically in charge of only one, I think we could carry that over to the thread making function or whatever. After all, Creative Discussions is a forum by itself anyways so I don't see how changing a couple settings will rock their world too much.

I think a creative chat might be a bit confusing to follow, since if one person is talking about art styles whilst a writer is talking about character development and stuff it could all get very confusing ;__;.
