Inspired by the TCG, though not ABOUT the TCG... how would you feel about the Pokemon games having rare versions of Pokemon that were of a unique type change? Think a secondary shiny that had its colors -less- altered than a normal shiny, but it would have a specific NEW typing from its ordinary counterpart. It wouldn't be as rare as a shiny, but it'd still be very uncommon.

Example: Electabuzz is normally Electric pure. What if there was a very rare chance that you could find an Electabuzz with slight color differences called "D-Electabuzz", and it would instead be Electric/Fighting?

There would only be one unique typing change per species, so it's not like sometimes you're going to find a Water/Psychic Golduck and other times you'll find a Water/Steel one. Golduck would ALWAYS be its ordinary typing or Water/Psychic specifically.

Personally, as long as it didn't get out of hand or just become completely random, I think it could be a really nice twist on the series that could give some lesser Pokemon a new relevance, and others a completely new role.

(Note: They don't actually need to be CALLED "Delta", that's just the name the TCG gave them so I figured it might be familiar to get the point across.)

Hmmm...I'm not sure. I think this could be really cool, but at the same time I feel like it would seriously unbalance battling. How would Game Freak decided whether a trainer should have a "delta" Pokémon or not? Not to mention how screwed up competitive battling would become if every Pokémon had an alternate typing available.

Cool idea! I think they could make it work if not every Pokemon got a Delta. Or maybe some are rarer than others. That could turn the competitive scene on its head, but it could potentially make it more interesting. It would depend on how it was implemented, but I think it's a good concept.

I love this idea from a Pokémon catching standpoint, but I have to agree that it would really cloud things up from the perspective of competitive battling and even in-game with having them on certain Elite Four and Gym Leaders' teams.

Delta species would be pretty cool. I could see that Electric-type Feraligatr in my team now.. I wonder how they would decide which pokemon to be chosen.

That could be pretty cool! Might be confusing at first but I'm sure we'd get used to it in time. I guess it's similar to some typings changing with Mega Evolution. I can imagine having fun trying to capture them in the wild, like trying to find a shiny or a hidden ability. If there was a story behind it like a natural event or human interference that causes the change that would be neat. I quite like the name too, and though I don't know how this works in TCG, it could be a good thing to take a concept from the TCG and bring it to the video games.

I've always wanted to see some Pokémon get new typings so this would be pretty cool! As long as the typings actually made sense I wouldn't mind seeing this in the games at all.
Yeah, they'd have to be careful about making sure the typing makes sense, but some of that is subject to opinion. There are quite a few Pokemon I feel are outright missing a typing they should have always had, though... like Luxray not being Electric/Dark, so Delta Species could help with that.

I'm not so sure it would make things all that unbalanced or messed up. As long as you remembered what a Pokemon's Delta Species is... you'd just have to plan to compensate for it. It's not that much different from just adding an entirely new Pokemon into the game.

    Lol I like the enthusiasm, but would there be any logical reason WHY Feraligatr would be Electric type? I imagine Water/Dragon or Water/Dark (to suit the biting) would make a lot more sense, though a Water/Dragon Sheer Force Feraligatr might be absurd. ^-^;

I like it in Rom Hacks and such. It makes play-throughs more fun. Would screw-up player battles too much, I think.

Deltas would be fun in a game based around it, but I would feel so chaotic in standard pokemon. Like if there was a Colosseum game based on Delta Pokemon.

I think it'd be cool if the Deltas got a slightly different look from the regulars as well. Just to distinguish them and perhaps make them feel a bit more novel~

I actually like where you are going with this. Perhaps some mode that is for Delta-only Pokemon? And keeping it in-game/local/fun battle may be best to avoid confusion?

Maybe the Delta Pokemon can discharge their new type upon release in the battle. For example, perhaps an electric-type Feraligatr could discharge electricity when taken out? Or maybe a sandslash could enter with a 'splash'. Get it? Maybe we can nickname him sandsplash. Bwahaha..

The idea sounds nice, but I think it screws up more than it's worth. Using an example mentioned above, electric Feraligatr, would you want it to suddenly be able to learn electric type moves too instead of the water moves? If yes, doesn't that make it a completely different Pokémon? It might look similar, but doesn't behave like that anymore. If no, what's the point of the new type? It just changes weaknesses and loses STAB on the water type moves.

If you want to make it work like adding a type that it looks like it might have, I say it's too similar to Mega evolution to add. Look at Gyarados, it has a regular version that has the water/flying type and a "Delta" version that is water/dark.

Isn't mega evolution exactly that, just with a couple more restrictions, to not unbalance the games too much (not gonna start a discussion, whether that's the case, or not)?

I think, before they introduce something else, GF would need to incorporate megas in such a way, that they aren't the center of every battle, anymore. Untill then, I really don't need another twist in typing/balance.

I'm totally cool with this idea. But they should retain their normal coloring and normal-shiny variants, in order to add more excitement to the competitive area.

For example, one would expect Ice moves to be super effective against a Bagon, instead it's not going to be effective! As the said Bagon is actually a Delta specie which is probably a pure Fire-type, or something like that.
