    So, basically, do you use them or not? Do they make your desktop ugly or do you prefer the more convenient program access they can grant?

    I currently have 61 icons that I keep permanently on my desktop, and I believe icons are there to be used, I don't see any point in a pretty picture simply sitting there.

    I do. I've got 23 at the moment. I use basically all of them all in one day. X3 My main programs.

    I cannot remember how many icons/ folders I have, but I do use my desktop alot. though I keep it pretty clean with a program that hides things

    I've got two icons in total, and hardly use any of them.

    Of course, that's because I have a Mac. If we're counting the icons that I keep on my Dock, then I've got 23 icons excluding the first two mentioned above.

    Yeah, they do save me an extra five seconds.

    And if you were to use them one hundred times, you would save... well, quite a bit of time. But not as much as if you used then one thousand times. That would save more time.

    I do not use desktop icons. I gotta have my stuff nice n' neat. <3
    Besides, it only takes me three seconds to get to anywhere from my main folder.

    Quick Launch == Epic Win
    Desktop Icons == Epic Fail

    I only keep two icons on the desktop permanently. One is the Recycle bin. I keep it there because I like it there. The other, Microsoft Outlook, I can't remove without messing up the program, or so it says every time I try to remove it. Sometimes I might put text documents on there, usually notes of some sort. But once they've served their usefulness, I move or delete them.

    I like having an icon or two on there. I can't stand it blank. But if there's only a few more, I go nuts.

    Another thing that drives me nuts? The most recently used programs on the start menu. It only has Firefox and Outlook. ._.;

    I only have 2. One is my Recycling Bin, the other is FireFox. MSN/WLM and Media player and whatever else I use are in my quick launch tab.

    I dislike having a cluttered up desktop.

    I only have... 6 or 7 icons on my desktop, and they're all organized at the top of my screen. I don't like the clutter of icons on my desktop and would much rather prefer using the Start Menu or the Quick Launch bar. Besides, I really want to see whatever desktop wallpaper I have, because if I can't behind clutters of icons, then there's no point in having one, for me, anyway.

    I only have two, recycle bin and a folder which i throw all my stuff in. Only reason I have two is because icons ruin the prettiness on the wallpaper

    I have desktop icons disabled on my desktop machines. But on my servers, I use them due to the fact that over RDP opening the start menu takes about seven seconds XD

    I hate desktop icons. Even if I rarely ever see my desktop, I still like to keep them off the desktop so I can see the wallpaper. If they're there, I feel it's too cluttered. I do use a Sidebar gadget to encompass all the icons. You can see it in this screenshot. I can deal with it on my desktop because it's pleasing to my eyes and it's a much nicer way to display icons. I still have my most used programs in Quick Launce (Notepad) or pinned to the Start Menu (Firefox, Photoshop, iTunes) so I rarely need to search for a program.

    At the moment I have fourteen icons. But, that isn't really a good number to go by since I have everything I download/save to my desktop, for easy locating purposes; and if I don't keep a watch on them they'll start to accumulate.

    I currently have 17, a couple of which I need to delete soon. I probably use only about 5 of my desktop icons at most; I prefer Quick Launch where I have 12 icons there. I do save files to my desktop sometimes when I'm too lazy to link to my folder, so that makes my number of icons accumulate.

    I have 28 permanent icons/folders on my desktop, which sit neatly in two columns down the left hand side of the screen due to my screen resolution xD And yeah, I do use them a lot! I also use the quicklaunch bar and the items pinned to the start menu.

    Oh, and there's the recycle bin in the bottom right hand corner of the screen where I like it xD

    I probably have about 50 very manly application/folder shortcuts; as is manly, I save files to my desktop so that I can locate them easily, and clear them off into the appropriate manly folders once I no longer need to use them, or when my desktop fills with icons.
