    If nobody else remembers, this thing was a trainer card:
    [PokeCommunity.com] Devolution Spray

    Now, it's a good idea for an item, but as far as I know it was never in the show, and I definitely know it was never in any of the games.

    So I ask, why? It could be a good item in the game if you decide you didn't want something to evolve after all. Or you just wanted it to evolve to learn a certain move, and then devolve it. Maybe you liked a certain shiny pokemon, but then when you evolved it you didn't like the way it looked.

    So do you think they should have these in the games? And to be more specific, should they be a one of a kind item like the Master Ball, or should they have a certain price on them?

    I think they should have a price.
    It's a fantastic idea though, that will help obtaining Poliwrath/Politoed and Slowbro/Slowking much faster.

    I remember that card and I also remember being pissed that I couldn't find it in Red. Back then I thought that it was a real item, it was just hard to find.

    I think it'd be a good item to have in-game, but it'd also be kind of cheap to be able to buy them at marts. It should either be a one-time only item like the Masterball or come in very limited quantities, like in R/B/Y when there was only a limited number of Moon Stones. Otherwise it would make me realize I wasted hours of training and breeding to get an Arcanine with both Extremespeed and Flare Blitz. ;;

    EDIT: haha, I just remembered the many episodes of the anime when Ash contemplated evolving Pikachu. How helpful this would have been.

    IMO it would have some usefulness (such as for branched evolutions and learning moves) but I'm of the camp that says all Pokemon need to reach their final form eventually because that's when they're most powerful.

    And I think the whole idea of evolutions learning different moves at different levels was to have you make tough decisions. Having this item in mass quantities somewhat defeats this purpose.

    And please don't introduce this item in the anime. There are precious few Pokemon that evolve anyway on the show

    The concept of devolving a Pokemon does sound neat, but I wouldn't be fond of it. In the anime: no; it wouldn't seem ethnical IMO to devolve a Pokemon (forcing it into its previous state). In the games: yes, it could come in handy.

    Ha. I remember this. Most players are children too young to use sites like Bulbapedia and Serebii effectively, right? So many of them probably won't know what the next evolution of X Pokemon is going to be when they get their new next generation game — they might not like it, and we know how young children can be... In any case I always thought they should put it in; it's up to the player whether s/he actually wants to use it.

    To people saying it should be a one-off item, I think it'd be better to see three or four around, as with Ether and Elixir. People don't keep just one Pokemon.

    I like the idea but doesn't it seem a bit savage making a creature smarter and then reducing its brain size when it devolves. I believe this was also in a manga
    (unofficial) that was hosted on Pokesho

    Although there is an essence of the TCG in this thread, it's mostly just describing the Pokémon video games in general - which means this belongs in General Pokémon Gaming.

    Oh, the times I would have wished for something like that. There are certain Pokemon I catch/obtain that I do not want to evolve. One of these instances is my starter Pokemon. I've accidentally evolved my starters so many times, and was always so pissed off about it. I usually ended up restarting the game which really sucked since I was already so far into it... </3

    Yes. Make it an item. D:

    Then again that gives people free-range to make crazy crap like Hydro Pump/Thunder Eevee or something weird like that. >_<;

    Back when Gold and Silver were first released in Japan, people were referring to the Everstone as the "Devolution Stone", which made me think that it was basically the in-game version of this card.

    Could always have the spray cause Pokemon to lose any moves their pre-evolutions can't learn.
    Also make it only work on Pokémon you didn't force to evolve (i.e. won't work on evolution stone'd or tradevolved Pokémon), because there's nothing accidental about those actions that a devolution spray would exist to counter.

    Have them in very limited numbers, perhaps even only one like the Master Ball (optionally with it also being a lottery prize).

    On the other hand, though, I don't think it'd be worth it. Pokémon is all about evolution, and while you might be able to have a few gimmicks, such as an unbreedable evolved Pokémon whose baby form can only be obtained via devolution (like Phione was only obtainable via breeding), I don't really think it sits well in the Pokéworld. It doesn't feel right, somehow.

    As convenient as it sounds, it just doesn't make any sense. Pokemon evolution is more like a metamorphosis. The Pokemon is simply maturing. It's like turning a butterfly back into a caterpillar, a frog into a tadpole, an adult human into a baby. Frankly, it's just unethical.

    I wouldn't really want it in the games, and although it would be neat to have pokemon wide wider movesets than normal, it would make Eevee the single most useful pokemon in any game, making some pokemon more useful than ones like heracross or other single evolutions.

    I dislike the idea, really. It would defy the laws of nature. D:

    It may come in handy, but I wouldn't be using it, purely because I feel morally against it, or something. XD;

    I want the devolution spray to be in the games. I had a shiny Whismur which I now regret evolving because shiny Exploud looks too similar to its normal form. If the spray was in B/W, I could send shiny Exploud over to those games then use the spray to change it back to a Whismur.

    i dont think it should be like a one time masterball but more like a rare candy in which there are few of but not alot of

    I wouldn't want it. There's such thing as an Everstone and pressing B. And breeding for another if you really care enough to have the previous stage. Or catching another. Or trading. Infinite solutions. Don't wanna hear about if you can't. It shouldn't matter that much to devolve. It sounds painful and inhumane anyway.

    Dang, this woulda helped when I accidentally evolved my Seel at like lv. 80. I wanted a lv. 100 base pokemon. D:

    But I think this'd be pretty cool for an in-game item.
