Sooo, I'm not 100% sure what I'm getting into. I discovered the Disgaea series as a result of one of my favourite musical artists, Ken Ashcorp (whom I may or not base a theme around soon ;D welp, looks like i did it hehe):

I really wanted to know what this song was about and so I was gonna start playing through the series on an emulator. I was just curious as to whether there was anyone here who could tell me what it's like, what to expect. Especially in reference to the earlier games. When I start playing the game I'll update this thread with what I think :P

Grinding. So much grinding. The Disgaea series, particularly their post-games, are massive grind-fests.

But besides that you'll see Nippon Ichi's great semi-unique brand of humor and Tenpei Sato's amazing musical scores. The games's stories are kind of hit and miss (I thought that Disgaea 1 and Disgaea 4 had the best stories in the series, while D2's was rather weak and Disgaea 2's was ok).

Though it's not exactly the easiest series to get into either, but at least it gets the benefit of getting love from Nippon Ichi in the way of getting more than one game in the series (unlike all their other IPs) and so the gameplay gets slightly better with each entry, as well as getting DLC from Disgaea 3 onward.
