Do you feel more inclined to reply to private messages or visitor messages first?

For anyone that joined PC before April 2008, private messages were the way to go when you wanted to contact someone. Visitor messages came in during April 2008, and have been popular ever since. Most people I know either hold a VM conversation with a person, or a PM conversation with a person - never really both. This means that most likely, you're going to have to make a choice between visitor and private messages. When you want to get in contact with someone, there's a few things you'd need to consider. These are whether it's short and something for the eyes of the public, or long, and something you want to keep private. Either way, people can still have long visitor messages, and short private messages, but generally, certain people have a certain way they prefer to send messages to each other.

    1. If it came to the crunch, and PC had to remove either private messages or visitor messages, which would you prefer to keep? (This is hypothetical, I'm not saying that it's ever possibly going to occur)
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?

I'd probably prefer it if PC kept private messages. Although I'm often lazy when replying to them - such as right now, leaving one PM unread, private messages are just much more easier for me. I survived at PC for a while without visitor messages, and private messages just feel safer. This isn't saying that I don't like visitor messages - I do, when wanting to get across to more than one person, but private messages are much more enjoyable to read I guess, because they have titles, while visitor messages are just... there, and there isn't anything fancy to them, if you understand what I mean. So yeah, I don't think PC really needed visitor messages because private messages seemed much more efficient. When it comes to which I reply to faster, it just really depends on who's VMing/PMing me.

I love visitor messages more than private messages, but you have to admit; private messages are much more important than visitor messages. They also have more usefulness than visitor messages, with them being private than visitor messages (duh). I would rather have private messages over visitor messages, but if I could, I'd make a few changes to the private messaging system. I'm not going to post them all here, since this isn't the right place for that.
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
I reply to private messages way faster than visitor messages, usually because I hardly get any private messages, and private messages have an alert sent to me when I receive them. Also, private messages are usually more important, since not many people send important and urgent messages through VM. Therefore, it makes sense to reply to private messages before visitor messages.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
It didn't really need them, since many forums operate just as well without visitor messages. Still, though, visitor messages are very convenient, and I can't imagine making as many friends as I have now without the visitor message system.

    LOL THESE R FUN

    1. If it came to the crunch, and PC had to remove either private messages or visitor messages, which would you prefer to keep? (This is hypothetical, I'm not saying that it's ever possibly going to occur) VMs, that's where most of my conversing takes place.
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages? I just click the PM pop-up even if I have VMs awaiting me. If the PM is really long I'll pull up my VMs in another tab and start responding to both at the same time .~.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
It's not critically necessary, I don't think, but it's fun to lurk other people's conversations.

I'd actually want them to get rid of PMs. We can always use the emails we registered with as a subsitution.

    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
I actually reply to the PMs first, personally

    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
I wouldn't really know, seeing as I joined 5 months after the VMs were put into place. But in my head, I see it as PC would have been better with VMs first. It would be more social, etc, etc, though it's fine the way it is right now. xD

PMs, definitely. If it is a matter of urgency, they should always PM me. As for conversing, I came to this site to be a part of a community and post, not as a way to find a substitute for an ordinary social-networking site like Facebook. If they need to have a one-on-one conversation with me so badly, add me on MSN or something. I don't feel comfortable giving my e-mails to any stranger either.

Private messages. Again, it's the issue of urgency nowadays.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
It wasn't exactly needed, but it was probably a quicker way of asking a question.

Oops, misread the first question. I'm a pro-PM person, just to sum it up.

I guess vms although I do like the privacy of pms when you don't want to announce something to everyone on pc. Overall though I'd keep the vms.

    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
I usually reply to private messages because I see them as urgent in a sense.

    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
Pc use to go on and can go on without them, but they are nice to have around.

    1. Um... Private messages. After all, if someone wants to show someone a link to a site that gives good tutorials, it'd be risky placing it in a VM, and even if the person has their VMs limited to friends only, their other friends could see said VMs, so yeah.
    2. It's about the same, actually ^^' Sometimes I won't respond, sometimes I'll take forever, that sort of thing.
    3. Sure. One really good thing is that if you have it enabled to the public or whatever, if other people see that you have similar interests with them then they may be inclined to VM you to get to know you better :3

    1. I'd prefer to keep PM's.
    2. I reply VM's faster.
    3. No, not really.²

Private messages; sometimes, it's nice to be able to send someone a message the world can't see. (I realize there are ways around this, but overall, VMs are more visible to the public.)
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
Yes. For some reason I think it's easier to reply to VMs. PMs, I've always been awful about answering, even in the days before VMs. Then again, for the longest time, I was awful about replying to VMs, too. I don't know how I manage these days. Probably less VMs.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
I want to say I was peeved when I first heard about VMs because it sounded like it was ripped from Facebook, but I think it's a nice feature to have around. So sure, why not?

I don't get messages on Pokecommunity because nobody likes me... :pink_cry:

PMs, VMs dont come with an Inbox
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?

I never really get that many of each.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?

Probably not, but its faster than opening a PM, doing subject, etc.

    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
Yes, because VM's are right on my profile.

    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
Yes, PMing is good but I think VM's are better to communicate with.

    1. If it came to the crunch, and PC had to remove either private messages or visitor messages, which would you prefer to keep?
PMs; not really because they're private, although that is nice, rather because it'd keep this forum consistent with others, is more 'proper' and seems to have greater functional capacity.

    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
N/A, as I only take PMs. They don't come with any kind of alert message, at least to my knowledge, so I'd be faster to a PM than a VM by far anyway.

    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
It seems to encourage a more social atmosphere, and since this is a community it's a good feature, although I wouldn't say necessary.

    1. VMS
    2. I do replay to VMS faster.
    3.Yes I do.

I just love the Visitor Messaging system. It's like my main way to talking to my friends here on Pokecommunity. Well, there are other ways to send personal and urgent messages than PM's. One can always contact one another through emails for such things. However, one could also use Facebook, AIM, MSN, or Skype rather than VM's.

When it comes down to preference, I would choose VM's than PM's. Besides, I rarely sent out and recieve PM's from users. Oddly, I respond to PM's when I do get one. I guess it's because of the rarity and feeling a Personal Message gives to me that I would check on it first.

    This, and.

Kind of, yes. Because VM's are more convenient and they're easier to use. :3

I'd remove private messages. In most cases, you could very well hold a conversation that's meant to be included in a personal message with someone on an instant messaging client. Unless you don't give that out to people, in which case that's up to you.
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
I prefer visitor messages to private messages. Private messages, for the most part, could sit in my inbox for days without me replying to them whereas visitor messages are right there and... a reminder to reply to something. Though, for the most part, I respond to visitor messages the moment I read them.
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
I don't think any forum needs visitor messages like that, but they don't hurt to have.

Pm's, Vm's are a more easier way of communicating [isn't that right]
    2. Do you reply to visitor messages faster than private messages?
No, I reply to Pm's first I just think they're moar important
    3. Do you think PC needed visitor messages in the first place?
Yes, otherwise friends would never be friends D=
