See, I have this friend that thought anime was stupid even after he gave a few shows a try. Eventually however, I guess it grew on him because he now watches FMA, GitS:SAC, & Inuyasha on Adult Swim. Which brings me to my question:

So, do you believe anime is something that you have to get used to in order to enjoy?

Heck no! But its your opinion and your entiteled to it!

I'm gonna have to disagree here; because, I think anime is an acquired taste. Anime, in my opinion, seems to be classified as a completely different category in comparison to American animation. I found that anime, in America, is heavily stereotyped as something only "weird" kids/adults like. Yet, you can say you watch any series of American cartoons and you'll be accepted. So, I do think it is something that has to grow on you first before you can enjoy it.

Obviously, there are exceptions...because the first anime I watched daily was Monster Rancher...and I hadn't even heard of Japanese animation at the time. I didn't think anything of it because I liked it. But, when Pokemon was introduced...honestly, I thought it was annoying and I couldn't stand it, lol. Then one day I tuned into the show, and it grew on me. Before I knew it--I, too, was a Pokemon fan. ^_^ That led me to get interested in more anime after I found out this animation originated in Japan. And that's my spiel, heh.

    hmmm.....

i think that it depends on both what you thought about anime beforehand and what your 1st anime is..... mine was Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network 0h-so-long-ago.... then somehow i got my hands on a "a sneak peek at Pokemon" tape i think put out by nintendo, and i was hooked(both an pokemon and anime in general).... it talked about how there was 150, introduced the characters, and even had clips from all the way up to the Lt. Surge Fight.... ever since i saw a bit of that battle, i was hooked. and, to this day, i consider the Lt. Surge Battle the best gym battle ever,(and that's sayin somethin!) now that i've seen the whole thing.... that one battle's what really got me into pokemon....weird, huh? and all this was a couple months or so before even the Red and Blue came out!(but the voices and everything were perfect, which helps me to believe it was official)... i still have that tape to this day....

EDIT:oops, got kinda off topic there.....sorry. i say it depends on your prejudices to anime before you see it and what your 1st anime is, i think

I'm going to actually say yes, at first glance anime is vastly different from American animation, in terms of character layouts and such. Then if you take a closer look, usually anime will have a lot deeper storys then most American ones. I mean, there are so many different catagories of anime, and yet most American stuff can fall into one or three areas. So, for Japanese it'd be eaiser to pick up on US anime then it would the other way around.

Usually, the one thing I've noticed that really sets anime apart from other US animation would be the music. How many US shows can you say get full soundtracks, or even a full single song for that matter? While with anime it's not uncommen to see a show with two or three CDs, and that'd be just forty or so episodes in. So, yeah like I said, a lot of things go into making anime different from other animation forms, so it's just eaiser to fall into US animation, and yes you do have to give anime a try or two before you like it.

    who's heard of ruronikenshin(spelled wrong roo-rown-ee-ken-shin)

Kamaro, you're posting in the wrong thread, and it's Rurouni Kenshin.

I liked Anime the first time I saw it (Sailor Moon, years before I knew Anime even existed) but it had to grow on my brother, and he still refuses to watch much. It depends on who you are - it clicked for me right away.

    rurouni kenshin rocks
