Recently I've been getting into the History channel. I don't know if it's because i'm getting older or what, but it's true.

We all have our sitcoms and our cartoons, but what about the shows with the interesting facts?
Do you, or have you ever watched an educational program, perhaps even regularly?

I remember growing up I used to love educational shows that involved experiments such as Bill Nye the Science Guy or ZOOM!
I used to sometimes try out some of the experiments I saw.

As mentioned earlier, I've been watching the History Channel lately, specifically the show American Pickers. It's a show about two guys who own a business called Antique Archeology, which is basically all about recovering historical artifacts that are just laying around in people's yards and sheds all over the US and selling them to people who use them for movies/decoration/restoration.
This show is just absolutely fascinating because it's all about these two guys travelling and buying all this stuff that you would think is just junk but have incredible historical backgrounds. I definitely recommend watching it if you ever get the opportunity.

Another one I love to watch regularly is Myth Busters, as it's kinda like the modern day Bill Nye to me. :P

I like to watch the Rick Steves travel shows on PBS and The Agenda on TVO (Ontario-only public television). Also nature docs. Those are always fascinating

The closest thing to educational TV I've ever watched is Little People, Big World. It's not really intended to be educational; it was a reality show about a family of dwarves... but it taught me a lot about them!

But yeah other than that I really can't stand educational TV. I watch TV to be entertained, not to learn things :P

I don't go out of my way to watch educational TV series or anything, but if I see a good documentary while channel-surfing, I'll normally get sucked into it if its subject matter is interesting. The most recent two I watched were about this Chinese TV show where this presenter interviews people on Death Row just before they're executed, and another one about how the conventional approach to weight loss is very scientifically inaccurate about how the body works. But I don't watch things like Mythbusters or more long-range shows like that.

Having said that, I do have the entirety of Planet Earth on Blu-Ray, which is GOR-GE-OUS to look at and often very compelling to watch. But that's pretty much the exception that proves the rule.

Watch Life. It's even more gorgeous! Better cameras XD

I'm looking forward to when Frozen Planet airs here. It's Planet Earth Part III

I watch American Pickers sometimes also, but I like Pawn Stars more. The customers are funny cause they think stuff is worth a ton of money and when it gets verified by an expert, it's really not lol. But yeah, I think that's really the extent of my educational shows, unless Food Network counts. I like learning about food and restaurants and such, even though I have no intentions of working with food. I do work in a restaurant though, but still.

BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER OMG.

I love nature programs lolol. I had to watch the whole Planet Earth series and I've re-watched it tons of times too. Any show about Dinosaurs on Discovery Channel I also have to watch. Also used to watch Dual Survival a lot. Usually if I happen to be watching TV and Nature is on I'll watch it. Best one I ever saw was on cheetahs ayaya. Also not going to lie if I see Cats 101 is on I will watch it shamelessly. They go over cute cat breeds and it's just so cute I can't not watch it. :(

Duuuude. Bill Nye was the sheeyt.
And Beakman's World too. Anyone remember that?

Pawn Stars is cool. The amount of information these guys seem to randomly know is kind of fascinating. Plus, it has the treasure-hunt feel that Antiques Roadshow has. Grandma's old ashtray? $1000 at Sotheby's. Japanese-only Pokemon figurines that you've been holding on to since 1998? $5. :P

Anything dealing with the crusades, medieval Europe, the plague, ancient Rome, and really, anything on 'old' history in general has my attention. Once we get past America's discovery and early days, it kinda gets fuzzy for me.

Brad Meltzer's Decoded is fun. Even if you dont care about the current mystery, the comments he has in between segments are usually good for a chuckle.

    I know there's more I watch....
