Empoleon and Golem Movesets

    I thought they were pretty good Pokemon, but they seem to die a lot, so I probably need better movesets. What should I teach them?
     
    Golem@Leftovers
    Impish/Adamant
    -Stone Edge/Rock Slide
    -Earthquake
    -Explosion
    -Ice Punch/Thunderpunch

    STABs (obviously). If you don't use Explosion then Rhyperior outclasses it in every way. IP and TP can only be taught in Emerald I think but they're needed. Each covers one of Golem's major weaknesses.

    -Ice Beam
    -Grass Knot
    -Agility

    Surf for STAB, Ice beam for Grass types, Grass Knot for heavy foes. Agility is so you an sweep quicker and last longer.
     
    I just got told that explosion is a waste, because hp affects it.

    He said low hp means low attack so it's only worth using on high hp..

    Is it true that hp affects explosion?
     
    I do believe that is false.
