FINALLY I can suggest to idiots that don't know squat a free AV product with a brand name they won't start asking me pointless questions about. Before, every time I suggest something free like Avast! or Avira (or earlier, AVG) to someone, the reply came "I've never heard of that, is it as good as McAfee/Norton/whatever bloated crap I'm using?" What followed was always a long talk that basically summed up how they knew squat and to trust the guy that's been working with computers his whole life (not really; I'm actually pretty nice, and instead show them score comparisons).

BUT NO MORE! Microsoft has released an effective (read: actually effective, unlike the security junk they've been releasing for the past few years) and free (I know, crazy, right?) anti-virus solution with Microsoft Security Essentials. THANK GOODNESS. Now, when somebody is overpaying for whatever crap they think they need, I can go "well, Microsoft offers a better product for free; just use that." No more "BUT SINCE I HEARD OF NORTON IT MUST BE BETTER," no more "PAID SOLUTIONS ARE ALWAYS BETTER THAN FREE." Just a quick uninstall+install and both sides are happy.

I don't think I've ever said this, and I'll probably never say it again, but thank you, Microsoft. You've made my job easier for once. I'll probably still recommend Avast! or Avira, but for the idiots who cling too much to brand names or refuse AV protection, at least I'll save them a fair bit of hassle.

Oh yeah. This comes with the added bonus of watching all the big-wigs at companies like Symantec panic and try to act like it's something sub-par, despite the fact that it's actually MORE effective than their crap.

    Spoiler:

You freaking moron right after the day I bought a copy of Kaspersky and not earlier. >:|
    Congratulations, you made my day.

Hmm..is it better than Avast? I shall soon find out.

Oh no, I cant use it because I need a valid Windows copy~ Fantastic

Even though I do have one...:/ It just says the product key, that was never used on my computer is not genuine so I have to use a crack...

Edit: Called Microsoft and got the key working. Just now became productive and did that. Heh, now I am updating MSE.

I was just about to try and install my other AV (Trend Micro), and I saw this.
I'm updating definitions at the moment.

It actually sounds like a good piece of software.
    bad user, very bad user!

Trend Micro is only good for it's "shutdown after no threats found" feature but it still misses over 9000 viruses/trojans/etc

But in any case I wanted to try MSE in it's beta stage after all the praise it got around the internet for having a decent detection rate

Hey, I caught my mistake at least. :[

It actually found something TM didn't.

Microsoft doesn't allow pirates to use MSE. Instead, they must use Avast!

    Lol'd.

Happy they released it, its better the nothing, and though I don't like Apples methods (Of shoving software down users throats on Windows), Microsoft should shove this down to customers. Allot of people need it.

    My VLK says different.

I use Avira anyway, if I even bother installing anti-virus.
    WOOSH!

That's the sound of my totally funny and amazing joke going clear over your head. :'(

I'm going to start using this since I am in need of an Anti Virus program. I'll give it a test run and see how it does. I'll probably review it later on my blog.

    You fail.

I said I had a legit key, when I put it in into the computer, they said it wasn't. So I called, they did some stuff and it turns out it was so I could use it. :/ I have a legit XP and key.

    If I didn't...

    That wouldn't be running.

It was a joke, and I wasn't referring to you. -_-

Okay, so I tried this and it is attacking No$GBA thinking it's a virus. Which necessarily isn't bad. It could be that it's a sucking AV, or just powerful. However in an effort to stop this annoyance I am going back to AVG.

Just add the no$gba folder to the exclusion list, no point in going back to that bloated piece of crap
