    I know of Zone Alarm, but are there any other free firewall programs that are good?

    Edit: Might help to mention that I need it for Windows XP. *Smack*

    Edit2: How about Sygate Personal Firewall?

    Personally, I don't use firewalls, antivirus software, or spyware removers. They're annoying. Anyway, I've heard that Kerio Personal Firewall is good and the Windows XP SP2 firewall is pretty good if you have nothing else.

    What in the world do you do to protect your computer then, Gary? o.O

    I dunno, Morkula. I did an spyware scan on a friends computer, who uses IE and had NO Anti-Spyware software until I got it for him, and his computer was clean. Wierd things happen.

    Heck, I can use IE and go to about 12 sites and end up with nothing, but use Firefox and get about 20 tracking cookies. Some things just happen with no explination, and you're left scratching your head saying "What the ****?"

    I might have had maybe 5 cases of spyware/adware on my PC since I started using Firefox. I go into IE and I get about 50... XD

    For Firewall and Antivirus use Norton, for further protection use run Pestpatrol once a week.

    And for High capacity hacker attacks or counter attacks and network activty use BlackIce

    Norton is a paid program...but you can find it free on the net.
    Pestpatrol->Free --www.pestpatrol.com
    BlackIce is free and you can find it too if you search.

    Edit: i think sygate works aswell.
    And....Firefox>Opera>Internet Explorer. Imo

    Norton? You're kidding me. Norton is a piece of **** that tends to do more damage than help. It dives so deep into the OS that uninstalling it can possibily force you to reformat and reinstall Windows. I used my old XP SP1 upgrade CD to reinstall just to avoid Norton.

    Really, Norton isn't good anymore. It hasn't been a good brandname to use since Win XP was released. It became too big for it's own good.

    Anyway, now that that's out of my system, does anyone know how good Sygate's firewall is?

    Edit: Thanks for the opinion on Sygate. As for the browser thing:

    Firefox>IE>Opera, imho. I perfer Ie's look over anything, but I like Firefox's tabs, so I use it.

    Well i know Norton is a brand .. but i had it all my life ..and i havent seen any worms or trojans ....

    I could recomend you other stuff , but i always used Norton..so

    Hmm i dont know but take a look

    www.torrentspy.com
    on search put :firewall

    And there you can find Sygate Pro and the Kerio with crack plus other stuff to download
    that helps?

    Do NOT use the WinXP firewall, even SP2, it's CRAP.

    ZoneAlarm is good, but the other free ones I've heard are decent are Tiny Personal Firewall and Kerio.

    I got Sygate Free to try for a little while. I see how it goes.

    mvtm, sorry, but I'd rather got the legal route.

    I hate the Firewall that comes with Windows XP. One time we were playing AOEII and the Multiplayer games wouldn't show up. Then we realised it was the stupid Firewall.

    Nothing. Well, yesterday I did install a firewall and anti-virus. But I'll probally get annoyed with it again and just unistall it just like every other firewall/anti-virus I've used.

    Well, that worked as well as diving into posion. X_x;

    Screw it. XP firewall will work for now.

    ZoneAlarm is a good relaible piece of software, even the free version. I would use it.

    Except for the fact that it bogs down my laptop so bad that it becomes almost unusable.

    I was running ZoneAlarm on an WIN98 system with a 350MHZ processor and 128MB of RAM and it didn't even slow it down, what are you running?

    Windows XP Home SP2, 512 MB RAM with an integrated 64MB ATI Raedon Mobile graphics card.

    In all honesty, I think it's a problem with my laptop. Sygate and Zonealarm both have had the exact same problems, where as my PC has none with either one. I'll do some searching and see what I can find out.
