Don't know if this is in the right place, but for any of you California members, you should know about this already.
There's been flash flood and even tornado warnings here.
The weather is bad enough to the point where schools are being closed down.
Anyways. I have a question, I had always thought it was impossible for a tornado to hit here in California. Since there are so many mountains, my science teacher said we'd never have to worry. Yet, the news, radio, and even internet weather is saying there is a tornado, and to stay sheltered.
My question is, if there wasn't supposed to ever be tornados, why is there now?

There can be a tornado anywhere, but on the western side of the country it is extremly hard for one to touch down, and if it does touch down. Your science teacher is right, the MTNs will protect you (tornado will hit the mountain and stop).

I heard one touched down in January 1998. Three links I found about tornadoes in California(and when they touched down):
    https://www.disastercenter.com/californ/tornado.html
    https://www.wdc.ndin.net/Cal_Tor.html
    https://www.tornadoproject.com/alltorns/catorn.htm
Go check those out for yourself, pretty interesting facts. And, notice, no one's ever died in a California tornado.

Edit: https://www.tornadoproject.com/alltorns/worstts.htm#CA That website lists every major tornado to hit each state. Even Alaska! :surprised

Don't be scared. I have been through seriously probably more than thirty tornadoes, easily. I've lived in Tornado Alley all my life. You are protected by the mountains. Now here, where it is flat, that is another story. My parents have been in an F5 back in the '70s. Anywho, you should be fine.

The only tornadoes that come are F0 and F1. Sometimes, an F2. It would be pretty neat if a tornado touched down so I could videotape it. :)

Yeah, those are really small and not really dangerous. It is a great site to watch one, but there is nothing really to worry about on the tornado side, me is thinking.

Meh, this geologist said he thought there was a possibility a tsunami would hit the east coast of Australia. >.< We're due for a tsunami. XD lotsa bad weather here too, but it's summer. Either hot drought or big flood. Darn! XD

Yes, darling, but not on the coast. :P XD

because of the flash flood warnings we had here in La Quinta all main roads that go in to washes have been washed out..lol they say it's going to take three months to fix..i wish that the rain would come back now i miss it O and where i live the city 14 miles away form my city there was a tornado F1 i think
