    CELLO'S PIXEL DUMP

    INTRODUCTION:

Hey guys! Cello here, just dumping some pixel art from an indie game project i'm working on called GRYM. It's currently in hiatus, as I don't have a lot of free time between school and other personal projects, but the project is far from abandoned.

This thread will likely not be updated frequently, as I don't work on my pixel art frequently. I just mainly wanted to show my progress off.

    CLOSING:

Like I said, this wont be updated too often.
I'll have a thread in the main section soon featuring my other artwork that will be updated very often.

Programs used were Graphics Gale and Photoshop for animation.

    Thanks for viewing!

The pillow shading on the trees works really well, I think. It helps give it a dark, spooky feel as if there isn't much light around. Actually, that whole image is rather nice. Not having everything at 90 degree angles like your older backgrounds really helps it not look boring.

The running is a little stiff. It looks like there is a belt or something hanging beside his hip which only appears for one frame and then disappears. Not sure if it's meant to look like something that's flopping around because of the running or if it's just something you haven't fixed yet, but it's a bit awkward. The arms though look pretty fluid.

It does actually work well on the trees, I agree, but the stones look tacky with it in my opinion.

gaah pillow shading. Yeah, you might want to have a look at your shading, google some tutorials or something as it's my least favourite aspect of your work, along with the outlines. But the lineart is really great, especially on Jack (how thin are his legs? @_@)

It's some great work though! :D

Thanks for the feedback mang! I'll be sure to look into some the next time i'm jumping into pixel work.
I actually prefer the pillow shading. I thought it looked flat otherwise. Maybe i'm doing it all wrong. x_x
I am a pretty stubborn learner, always trying to take shortcuts hahaha.

And yeah, Jack's legs are a little skinny. I wanted to go for something a little different with the sprites. I actually got my inspiration from another sprite artist, though I can't remember his name off the top of my head.

Thanks for the feedback as well! Yeah, I changed the angle in order to use a parallax effect while playing, meaning the higher you go, the foreground and background shift so you'll be able to see more the background, and vice-versa. Not to mention everything moves with you while you navigate around the map.

The running animation definitely does need a lot of work. The thing that appears in only one frame is something I need to fix. It's just a cut in the legs where I adjusted his body position in the frame.
There is a chain flopping behind him, though. I'm surprised you didn't say something about how stiff the hair is! :P
