    Like, I have two mega(I think their mega) questions about gary so I'm just starting a thread to talk about him. 1. What happened to Gary and Ash's friendship, I thought they were like best friends. 2. What was Gary's starter pokemon? I thnk its squirtel
     
    Gary and Ash's friendship? They're still friends they just don't see each other anymore. (Although I like it better when Gary was a stinker... and they were heated rivals. No... he had to go and grow up. =P)

    Gary's starter was Squirtle. He has a Blastoise; and since he had to have picked one of the three starters that Ash didn't get... it was Squirtle. ^-^ Though they had him get Eevee in Pokemon Yellow. That always threw me off! Stupid Pokemon Yellow.
     
    Shigeru and Satoshi are still friends. The reason Shigeru doesn't appear anymore is because his Japanese voice artist Yuko Kobayashi quit at the end of the original "Pok?mon" series. Thus, he hasn't appeared in "Pok?mon Advanced Generation" at all (though Kobayashi did agree to return once for a Shigeru-based Hoso special).
     
    Would like to clarify that the anime bungled up abit. They started off with Shigeru and Satoshi not knowing eachother and then showing that they did before they started their journeys. :s

    And yes, his starter was Zenigame.
     
    Ohhh, thats much better than what my sister told me. She said and i quote, "The only reason they hate each other is because their secert lovers." I so think its weird she supports Palletshipping.
     
    Frends?

    What the?! Gary and Ash frends? I fought there like Vegeta and Kakarott (enemys to the end) but frends? Wow i gotta watch next pokemon episodes to find out!
     
    Son Goku and Vegeta were enemies and then rivals and then friends. o_O Not always enemies. They settled their rivalry. As did Satoshi and Shigeru after their battle in Jouto.

    Ok. If you want to go with Dragonball, I can do lots of comparisons there. Since we're onto Ash and Gary, it would make more sense to compare them to Goku and Krillin.

    If:

    Ash = Goku
    Gary = Krillin (not sure of the exact spelling)

    Then:

    Ash and Gary were initially rivals, like how Goku and Krillin were, but in both cases, the two became best friends, and like Goku being stronger, Ash becomes a much better Trainer than Gary.

    (Pokemon os so loaded with similarities to Dragonball that it's frightening...)

    Oh! The starter Pokemon!! It was supposed to be Eevee, but they mistranslated it in the US version (thanks alot, 4Kids...), so alot of people thought it was Squirtle. It's actually Eevee.

    Uh..no. o_O Zenigame IS his starter. SBaby, that wasn't a dub error. Zenigame was the Pok?mon he received from Ookido-Hakase. They mentioned this in the original.
     
    It makes more sense for Squirtle to be his starter anyway considering Samurai's flashbacks of the other Pallet trainers were of only the three starters. Unless Gary caught a Squirtle of his own between Pallet and Pewter City and used it in an important battle with Samurai rather than Eevee... O.o
     
    :\ Just because he favored Eievui doesn't mean it was his first Pok?mon. People get the misunderstanding that the dub error was when Brock says that Blastoise was the Squirtle Gary got from Oak. The problem here is just that he sort of knew. Takeshi originally was unsure if that Kamex was the Zenigame that Shigeru got from Ookido-Hakase. The Professor pretty much then confirmed this. The dub error was basically just something that killed a realization that it was indeed his starter, making it more suprising.
     
    Ok i am makin this clear the krillen goku thing is rightbut sqirtle was his first pokemon as said when ash and gary fought prof. oak said "that is his strongest pokemon the one he started his journey with" or somethin like that.
     
    Shigeru's seiyuu quit the show and they're not replacing his seiyuu. If they were, they wouldn't have written Shigeru out completely. o_O
     
    Didn't Gary go off to be a researcher or something? I seem to remember an episode with Aerodactyl...
     
    I totally miss Gary! Is Shigeru his name in Japan? I thought his full American name was Gary Shigeru Oak and Ashe's was Ashton Satoshi Ketchum? I'm confused... :confused:
     
    Japanese Name: Satoshi
    American Name: Ash Ketchum

    Japanese Name: Ookido Shigeru (remember that Family Name comes first in Japan)
    American Name: Gary Oak

    As if 4Kids would actually let main characters run around with Japanese names. ;\
     
    Satoshi doesn't have a family name?? O.o Isn't that a little weird for a main character? Oh well, I suppose it isn't all too important to the series. So when he introduces himself he just says his name without his family name? I dunno, that just seems kinda funny. =P

    Ash's last name is Ketchum because 4Kids needed a name that could match the lip sync for "Satoshi" if it needed to (same number of syllables). And Satoshi introduces himself without his last name, but then again, he doesn't really need to say his last name in my opinion. I always thought Ash was being kind of pompous when he introduced himself as "Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town" to a total stranger.
