GBA Pokemon Games on sale @ Circuit City

Circuit City has Fire Red & Leaf Green GBA versions on sale for $14.99. I was there just in the last hour or so and they didn't have either on the shelf :disappoin, (well, the sale just started today......). I'm interested in getting a game for my GBA. Do both game work the same ? Same starter pokemon, etc? Can you catch a Pikachu in both games?

Thanks for any help and/or advice. I've never had a Pokemon game before and I really want one for GBA so I can get the hang of it. And FireRed or LeafGreen is what I want to start with first.
