Yes, and if his nautical nonsense be something you wish, what do you need to do?

Well it was 950 now it's around 900? I just started in November because I loved The Queen's Gambit. I am halfway through Jose Capablanca's Chess Fundamentals and once I finish it I am going to read the new iteration of Modern Chess Openings and I expect my rating to shoot up quite a bit. I don't know any mainline theory yet so after a few moves I am pretty much winging it.

damn that's awesome. got into it last year on a complete whim and by the time i finished researching i'd already taken note of like 20 different chess grandmasters and worship MIkhail Tal lmao. i know a couple openings too but my mid and end game just suck ass. i think i was around 700 elo when i last played bcs i kept losing lol.

419 DAMN IT i wanted that

mom and i used to play lots too! we had an old chess board and i think she went 55-0 on me or something until i beat her once in 4 moves (did the scholar's mate right under her nose) after which she stopped playing lol. i can only dream of getting into 4 digit elo territory.

yup that's one common way to do it. there's also just plain f6 but it doesn't promote piece progression.

and if you're opponent's a madlad and decided to scholar mate you via Qh5 instead of Qf3, well then that's gonna be a fun game to unravel eh?

yeah it is actually. it's how i was taught the first time i heard of it, but lotsa guys at school started to be more passive with Qf3 because Qh5 was putting your most versatile piece straight into enemy lines. as soon as the scholar's mate was deflected, it was instinct to aggro push the queen.
