I'm sure this is a topic that's come up many many times before, so I apologize in advance if I'm repeating something recently talked about.

I'm 18… I've been a fan since red/bue, and I find that red/blue and gold/silver were the glory days of pokemon. Now, I'm not the type to shun new games for any reason, and claim that the classics are untouchable, but the series is going downhill. At the very least, I think the execs over in PokeCorp are neglecting the older generation of players. Just look at the tv show to see how kiddie oriented it is. Of course, nothing's wrong with playing a "kids game", or else I wouldn't be here. What I'm thinking is, there's no need to continually add blaringly obvious hooks and… an abundance of gimmicks. There's a reason red and blue sold so many copies. It's because people appreciate simplicity… but… tell me if I'm wrong on that. Because:

I'd done a little research on what people are suggesting for the next generation of pokemon games… I found this: http: //blogs.ign.com/startselect/2008/01/06/76205/
For those of you who don't feel like copy and pasting that into your address bar…
    1. Introduce a new control scheme
    2. Full character customization
    3. Revamp the story
    4. New interactive battles
    5. Push online!
    6. 3D graphics
    7. Sounds
    8. Creating some better pokemon
    9. Battle field tactics

So yeah… everyone who commented on that blog agreed. So if that's the predominant feeling among players then… whatever, I'll go out and buy the next game regardless cause I'm a dork like that, but the point is… I disagree with basically every point on there.

We don't need MORE better pokemon. There are plenty awesome pokemon spread throughout the generations. Too bad they're never in contact with eachother, because inexplicably, Rattata are just completely unable to live in Sinnoh. =P

My point is this, I think. Adding in all those 9 things would do nothing except maybe extend our interests in the game by a number of hours after buying it. In the end though, we'll put it down and be mildly disappointed again, and gripe about the decline in the series for another handful of years. What Pokemon needs to do to avoid going the way of Megaman… (obscurity due to too many crappy games in a row)… isn't continually update ideas with superficially interesting gimmicks. They need to make a classic. They need another classic on the level of red/blue and gold/silver… something that is simple and continuing with the tradition of that golden age. The powers of the Wii and DS should be used to create something really compelling… not just flashy graphics.

I'm not going to take the time to brainstorm until I hear at least some positive feedback.
Negative is fine though… I just want to know what the general opinion is about the direction they're heading… and should be heading.

idk but on pokebeach they said that for the new pokemon movie(11) theyll be giving out free pens and their will be 2 new pokemon in the new game....but most likely i would think ......arceus because he hasnt been introduced in japan yet and why not kick it off with a new game :)

That'd be fine. Adding new pokemon definitely isn't necessarily a bad thing. They just need to not RELY on adding new pokemon to maintain our interests. Well… no… they don't NEED to stop, because we'll all buy the new game regardless. If they want to make a good game, they won't just create 105 new pokemon and 7 new gimmicks and call it a day.

I'd like to see more focus on the day/night system. They brought it back for diamond and pearl, but did it really do much? Oh no, I can't catch Murkrow cause it's 3 pm. Remember Gold version where there was maybe ONE pokemon common to morning, day and night, on route 31?

Also… you've got the technology… your catridges can handle more memory… so quit giving us only 150 or so select pokemon every time! I don't want to catch generation I pokemon in Kanto, generation III pokemon in Hoenn, and generation IV pokemon in Sinnoh. That's just stupid. There's no reason there wouldn't be wild Caterpie and Rattata even on route 203… and no reason Wurmple wouldn't inhabit Viridian Forest. You don't have to perpetuate the solution to the problem of "Why didn't they know about Zigzagoon and Sentret and dark pokemon in red version?" There doesn't need to be a realistic answer to that… just chalk it up to: "we hadn't invented them yet." There doesn't have to be an excuse in the tv show or games. Just shut up already, and make all the pokemon available.
That being said… don't make ALL the pokemon available. I don't want to have Scythers and Larvitars and Dratinis running amok. If I want the benefit of training a sweet Magmortar, I want Magbys to be rare! Give me wild Surskits on ponds, and Tropius in the jungle. Oh, allow me to back up for a second…
    I want ponds and jungles!

There's too much focus on cities, I find. It's not much of an adventure, if much of the game is spent in a pokemon contest in hearthome. Sure that's an exaggeration, but there's something to be said for actually going out and adventuring in a pokemon game. Give me a route where I have to work to get to the pokemon center at the end, and I can't just rush through it by tapping A through battles and constantly use Flamethrower.

I want adventure, damnit. And four hundred pokemon. Awesome graphics don't make a game… so if it requires staying still in the graphics category to make a larger more robust game, go for it.
Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Orange Islands… all expanded…
No more goofy bad guys. I hate goofy bad guys. Giovanni was awesome.
No more lame distractions… make a game solid enough that you don't need things like Explorer Kit.

    Eeeeh… but I'll buy it anyway… ¬_¬
