I have a problem, and my problem is with the use of GIF animations in sigs. I'm not talking about blinkies and stuff, I'm talking about TV rips etc. that have been turned into GIFs so they can be added to sigs. We have a 500x300 limit which is all well and good, and the filesize of these if they're static isn't too high, but even a small TV rip can be well in excess of 500kb, which is just way too much for a sig. Can we limit filesize as well as dimensions?

Well, this is a good point as it kind of annoys me too! some pages take ages to load... >.<

How are they meant to control filesize though? Images are linked to hosts like photobucket, which means they are not linked to the forum and it can't be controlled I think... o_o'

I brought this up a while back, in the lounge. Nobody seemed to mind the filesizes. I played an experiment a while back, when I had 6 animations in my signature, all adding up to 3.3MB. Nobody complained. It was there for about a week. In the end, I just removed it myself.

But yeah, we seriously need to look at a filesize limit...

EDIT: Well, we can't control the 500x300 limit either, can we? People are expected to follow the rules. If they don't, then their signature will be edited.

Is there an option to monitor them though?
I'm kind of ignorant about this kind of things, but for what I know, the forum has nothing to do with the images linked from elsewhere... o.o

EDIT: Ah ok... well, in that case its really going to be hardwork on monitoring all those rules though... there should be a way of reporting signatures I think... o.o

the people can image crunche it its shrinks with 25% and 90% if you are a member there:O

sure:) it crunches the gif animation or gif file also jpeg.with 25% (90% if your are member there).so if the file is 1mb it is 0.75mb than:)here is the url:)it is pretty handy:P

edit:forget to say it do not reduce the quality of the picture:)

    Wow, that's really nifty, but we're discussing a rule for the GIF animations found in signatures here. Still, thanks for sharing! ^_^;

Alright, steering us back on-topic, what would be a suitable limit? 250KB? =X

i know thats why i told this so everbody can reduce the size of his gif animation file x_x

Sorry to bump, but it's a problem again. *sweatdrop* With the physical limit being 500x300 pixels, I don't see why you'd need more than 80 or so KB. *notes that I have a small per week traffic limit at uni and the huge sigs take up a LOT of it*

Keep sigs disabled, that's what I like to do. ;P

Well, 80KB is a bit small, considering people like to use PNGs (which, IMHO, is much better than GIF or JPG). I'm thinking something along the lines of 150KB. :3

Even using PNGs I can get my banner to around 70-80 KB, if I compress it the right way. 150K is REALLY big. o_O Remember, a typical download speed on dialup is 4-5KB/second, so that would take 30-40 seconds to download just one sig. And with 25 posts per page or whatever it is, that makes about 12 minutes just to download sigs! (Of course, you'll have cached images, but still...!!)

I usually try to make the signature about 10 frames or less to say the least and it's usually 100 x 200 or so. That is, if it's an animation signature.

That's usually not too bad. But some people have, like, 500KB sigs!

Exactly, but not everyone needs 150KB sigs o_O *is getting confused now*

some code can be added to the forums in the form of a mod which can check for the image fileszie and go from there with it, but that would both make the forums/server slower and be a PITA to develop in the first place. the most youd be able to di is just keep an eye out for these sigs and report them as necessary.

    Can somebody help

need help creating a sig picture!!
