Grinding

In a handful of newer playthroughs that I do, I don't find myself needing to grind very often, at least not until near the end of the game. Sometimes i'll find myself picking it up before a big battle, like, say, the Team Flare Secret HQ, but in most challenges I do that and before the Pokémon League are one of the only times that I find myself needing to grind much in XY.

Nuzlockes and Wedlockes are the exception, obviously.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. If I'm trying to get a run done quickly, then I usually won't much, but sometimes I just like to win battles handily for whatever reason.

During the normal game play, not at all! It's just not required unless you catch a low level Pokemon far in to the game and you want to catch up a bit. I do grind for competitive play though since after breeding the perfect Pokemon, you have to level it up :P However, in OR/AS, secret bases with level 100 Blisseys that kill themselves have made grinding rather redundant so now, I don't at all (even though killing Blisseys is technically grinding :P) xD

I tend to do final-preparation grinding for the tough opponents, and also get moves and items checked so they are ready for the battles ahead.

I don't do much grinding in Gen 6 games. In Gen 5 I had to, but grinding was atrocious in that game. Grinding in Gen 4 was reasonable up to a certain point (~lvl 33) and grinding in any Gen 3 game is actually super easy.

For Gen 3, if I need to do a lot of grinding, I'll take the save off the cart and throw it into an emulator at 1000x speed. When I'm done, the save goes back and I go about my business.

The only times I've really done that is when I'm training up a new team to beat the Elite Four with after I've beaten the game. At that point I kind of have to, depending on the game and how many trainers in your level range can be rebattled.

During the main game I've only had to do that occasionally.

I have levelling plans I like to stick to which usually require a small amount of grinding in-between gyms, but outside of that I don't grind until endgame where I'm training Pokemon for dex-filling purposes. I've never tried to grind money before...mostly because re-battling trainers would be tedious as hell.

In 3rd, 4th and 5th Gen I train in the Victory Road until my team is at a sufficient level to challenge the League. I haven't had to do this once since the beginning of Gen 6 though; all there is to it is to turn on the Exp. Share, and you'll eventually go from underleveled to severely overleveled.
