Hi Renee, I'm Hikari.
I've already seen you lurking... but anyways, welcome to the Pokemon Community!
Anyways, cool username! I love the name Ayeka, sounds very Japanese.
Not sure how you saw me lurking, unless you were able to track my IP address or something. If so, freaky!
Thanks about the username! I chose it for
Conquest precisely because it sounds Japanese. Technically it is, although Ayeka from
Tenchi Muyo was called Aeka in Japan, and the "y" was supposedly added in the dub to help with pronunciation.
So, a side Pokemon game specialist? How interesting. I specialize in the main games cos they are more canonical than the side games.
Well I don't know if I'm a specialist quite yet, though I've learned a lot just from what I've written for the site so far.
It's fine with me if you specialize in the main games. To each his own.
You run your very own Pokemon forum? That's great!
Uh no, I don't. Don't know where you got that. I was part of another Pokémon forum, The Pallet Tribune, but that isn't run by me. The site was created by these guys from New York, Jowy and KC, and developed from their podcast WTPT. I've never even been a moderator on a forum in my life. (And per the rules of most forums, I've never asked to be). The closest I ever came to that was becoming a staff member at a
Sailor Moon fan translation group and thus gaining staff privileges at their forum for a while, though that really gained me no perks except being able to access the staff forum, which I quickly learned how not to use. But then I lost my staff status because one of the group founders wasn't happy that I had done so little work for them over a 9-month period. I've since regained my staff status, though my role as staff member is different now, and the forum there has become read-only anyway.
Speaking of other Pokemon forums, I'm a staff member on one (an Administrator to be exact) called Pokemon News Daily. The link is in my signature.
Sounds cool! I'm looking at joining some other forums so I can connect with the community (and, I admit, promote my site to as many fans as possible), so I appreciate the recommendation.
Shining Raichu, who also introduced you is from Australia like I am!
Yay Aussies! I'd like to go to Australia some time. Oh and New Zealand too, though that's mainly because I'm a
huge LOTR fan (and also Phil Keoghan, the host of my favorite reality show
The Amazing Race, is from New Zealand). But alas, I lack the time and especially the money to travel anywhere.
So, what's your fave Pokemon? Mine's Oshawott.
Eevee's always been my fave. Not sure why. I also like a number of other Pokémon though, as I listed in my profile. Shaymin is a close second favorite.
I guess you have been obviously hanging out in Spinoff Games although you've been hanging out in Other Trivia (my specialty) and a few other sections too.
Good heavens, are you stalking me?!
Actually, I haven't quite made it over to Spinoff Games yet; this forum is so huge I have yet to explore every area.
You're in your 20's? It's great to see older fans here, I grew up with Pokemon ever since I started watching the anime at the age of 7. I then played my first Pokemon game at the age of 11, when I got Ruby for my birthday in 2003. I'm turning 20 in October and I'm not planning on hanging up my Poke Balls anytime soon. Also, are you excited for Black 2 & White 2? I am!
I guess you got my age from my profile.
I was a little older than most when I learned about Pokémon; I was around 14. My best friend, who also introduced me to several other animes, introduced me to it. My brother was also into it for a while but he moved on. My first game was Blue, but as I didn't have a Game Boy, I was forced to play it via emulator. Then I think I played Silver, though I don't really remember doing so. After that, I lost interest in Pokémon for about 5 years, picking up the games again with the first Ranger game and with Pearl. (In case you haven't noticed, I only buy one version of each pair. It's a weird habit I have).
I am pretty excited for the B & W sequels, though I confess I haven't being following the news about them that closely so I'm not sure what to expect from them. And I'm barely past the 2nd gym in the first White game as it is. So maybe I'll wait a bit to get them.
Anyways, send me a VM if you want to chat or contact anyone with a bold name if you have questions (like Shining Raichu there, he mods Other Voting Polls).
You'll have a great time here!

Thanks! Hope we can become friends!
Welcome to the forums Ayeka! I think you did a great job on your site and I see you are interested in web development. I just got a job as a web developer and I am a junior in college majoring in Computer Science. I have been working really hard on a pokemon adopt site where trainers can adopt, breed, level, and trade every pokemon. Please check it out in my signature and if your interested you can help me work on it. I would also love to partner/ link our sites :)
Thanks Nemesis! I did work hard on the site. Though I worry sometimes about the colors; I'm usually not a fan of high contrast so I tend to avoid it. And it's not terribly fancy, just some HTML5 and CSS with a few PHP includes. And it will have a blog feed on the home page as soon as I get that set up (probably this weekend; I downloaded WordPress but still need to install it on my site's server, as my current hosting plan doesn't allow for 1-click WordPress installation).
Web design has been one of my hobbies for 10+ years, on and off. I did actually consider majoring in Computer Science in college, but then decided against it because most Computer Science degrees require higher math, and I'm terrible at math. Instead, I majored in Literature and Writing Studies, Writing Studies Emphasis, with a minor in French. I also just got a Certificate of Achievement in Web Development and Design (more or less my backup in case my writing doesn't pan out). But I still have a long way to go in terms of knowledge, mainly because between about 2000 and about 2009 I didn't keep up with web design developments. I don't even know JavaScript, and I only know a little bit of PHP. One of my goals for this summer was to make sure all my web skills were up to par before I start looking for work; but I'm behind in starting that, unfortunately.
I'll definitely check out your site. From how you describe it, some MySQL database backend might prove useful, although sadly I am very unskilled in that area. But if I can help in any way I will try. I need the experience anyway. And thanks for the partnership offer! I'd love that!
If you want to get an idea of my design skills, the web design/web writing portfolio site I made for school is still up, and features all my work from the last three years:
