Hi everyone. My name is Reneé, or as I've chosen to be called on here, Lady Ayeka. I am new to this forum (though definitely not to forums in general; I've been on quite a few of those), though I have been poking around this forum lately as a guest getting info on fan games for my new website, since many of the ones I found via Google linked to this forum.

I've only ever been part of one Pokémon forum, the one at The Pallet Tribune, but I haven't been active over there in a while because it got too full of hardcore gamers, and I'm more of a casual gamer.

I've been a fan of Pokémon since 1998. While I like all aspects of Pokémon, I'm particularly into the manga and the TCG. I also like the side games, and played several of the N64 ones, but didn't truly get into them until 2007 when I discovered the Ranger series.

From my investigations of this forum looking for info on fan games, I have discovered the very thriving community this forum seems to have. So I decided to get in on the action. I hope I can be a happy and healthy member here!

So anyway about this "site" I mentioned...I've been trying to start a Pokémon-themed site since I taught myself HTML 10+ years ago. Now, I've finally done it. This new site is called PokéSideGames and is dedicated to all the Pokémon side/spin-off games. It's still a work-in-progress and has only been on the net about 2 weeks.

My username comes from the new Pokémon game Pokémon Conquest. Ayeka is the name I chose for my player character, and because she's a warlord, characters in the game address her as "Lady Ayeka." (Ayeka also happens to be the name of my favorite character in the anime Tenchi Muyo).

So, anyway, that's pretty much it about me!

Hey there Renee, it's nice to meet you!

It's always awesome when people in their 20s join the site, it always reminds me that Pokemon was created for our generation and we were where it all began lol.

Also, it's fantastic that you're mainly into the mange and the TCG because both of those sections on the site need some more love (particularly manga - it's hidden away as a sub-forum of Pokemon General so you might wanna go on a spree and see if you can get anybody else interested haha).

Anyway, welcome! I hope I see you around :D

    Nice to meet you too!

Totally! We got all those great N64 games too, like the Stadium games and especially Pokémon Puzzle League (one of my favorites). Not to mention all the other hype that came about when Pokémon was new.

I did notice that, that it's very hidden away. I think it's probably hard for some people to get into the Pokémon manga because there are SO many different series, almost all of them not available outside Japan. I started out with the Toshihiro Ono series, a.k.a. The Electric Tale of Pikachu, the (loosely) anime-based one that I think most people are familiar with. I like some of the aspects of that one, including the much more cool-looking Pokédex and the fact that you have to actually get a LICENSE to become a trainer, which makes a whole heck of a lot more sense. From there I moved into Pokémon Adventures, the manga based on the game series (again, pretty loosely based). I haven't checked out any of the more recently-released ones yet, though I did read a scanalation of one of the Pokémon Ranger webcomics. Mostly it's just hard to find the manga now, since the older ones are pretty much out of print. I was lucky enough to find the third graphic novel of Toshihiro Ono's series (Electric Pikachu Boogaloo) lying around at a bookstore once; I still need to find the fourth and final volume of that series. Pokémon Adventures is also tricky because they didn't release them all here I think, though they did release them all in English in Singapore.

As for the TCG, that's been a part of the Pokéverse I've liked since the very beginning. I still own cards I owned way back when that aren't even tournament legal now (due to the new Modified rules). I actually even wrote some articles on the TCG for The Pallet Tribune a while back, under the name WaterRangerLara. I have no one to play the physical game with anymore, but I have signed up for the beta for the official Trading Card Game Online.

Anyway, welcome! I hope I see you around :D

    Same here! :)

    Hi Renee, I'm Hikari.

I've already seen you lurking... but anyways, welcome to the Pokemon Community!

Anyways, cool username! I love the name Ayeka, sounds very Japanese.

So, a side Pokemon game specialist? How interesting. I specialize in the main games cos they are more canonical than the side games.

You run your very own Pokemon forum? That's great!

Speaking of other Pokemon forums, I'm a staff member on one (an Administrator to be exact) called Pokemon News Daily. The link is in my signature.

Shining Raichu, who also introduced you is from Australia like I am!

So, what's your fave Pokemon? Mine's Oshawott.

I guess you have been obviously hanging out in Spinoff Games although you've been hanging out in Other Trivia (my specialty) and a few other sections too.

You're in your 20's? It's great to see older fans here, I grew up with Pokemon ever since I started watching the anime at the age of 7. I then played my first Pokemon game at the age of 11, when I got Ruby for my birthday in 2003. I'm turning 20 in October and I'm not planning on hanging up my Poke Balls anytime soon. Also, are you excited for Black 2 & White 2? I am!

Anyways, send me a VM if you want to chat or contact anyone with a bold name if you have questions (like Shining Raichu there, he mods Other Voting Polls).

You'll have a great time here!

Welcome to the forums Ayeka! I think you did a great job on your site and I see you are interested in web development. I just got a job as a web developer and I am a junior in college majoring in Computer Science. I have been working really hard on a pokemon adopt site where trainers can adopt, breed, level, and trade every pokemon. Please check it out in my signature and if your interested you can help me work on it. I would also love to partner/ link our sites :)

Not sure how you saw me lurking, unless you were able to track my IP address or something. If so, freaky!

Thanks about the username! I chose it for Conquest precisely because it sounds Japanese. Technically it is, although Ayeka from Tenchi Muyo was called Aeka in Japan, and the "y" was supposedly added in the dub to help with pronunciation.

So, a side Pokemon game specialist? How interesting. I specialize in the main games cos they are more canonical than the side games.

Well I don't know if I'm a specialist quite yet, though I've learned a lot just from what I've written for the site so far.

It's fine with me if you specialize in the main games. To each his own.

You run your very own Pokemon forum? That's great!

Uh no, I don't. Don't know where you got that. I was part of another Pokémon forum, The Pallet Tribune, but that isn't run by me. The site was created by these guys from New York, Jowy and KC, and developed from their podcast WTPT. I've never even been a moderator on a forum in my life. (And per the rules of most forums, I've never asked to be). The closest I ever came to that was becoming a staff member at a Sailor Moon fan translation group and thus gaining staff privileges at their forum for a while, though that really gained me no perks except being able to access the staff forum, which I quickly learned how not to use. But then I lost my staff status because one of the group founders wasn't happy that I had done so little work for them over a 9-month period. I've since regained my staff status, though my role as staff member is different now, and the forum there has become read-only anyway.

Sounds cool! I'm looking at joining some other forums so I can connect with the community (and, I admit, promote my site to as many fans as possible), so I appreciate the recommendation.

Shining Raichu, who also introduced you is from Australia like I am!

Yay Aussies! I'd like to go to Australia some time. Oh and New Zealand too, though that's mainly because I'm a huge LOTR fan (and also Phil Keoghan, the host of my favorite reality show The Amazing Race, is from New Zealand). But alas, I lack the time and especially the money to travel anywhere.

So, what's your fave Pokemon? Mine's Oshawott.

Eevee's always been my fave. Not sure why. I also like a number of other Pokémon though, as I listed in my profile. Shaymin is a close second favorite.

I guess you have been obviously hanging out in Spinoff Games although you've been hanging out in Other Trivia (my specialty) and a few other sections too.

Good heavens, are you stalking me?!

Actually, I haven't quite made it over to Spinoff Games yet; this forum is so huge I have yet to explore every area.

You're in your 20's? It's great to see older fans here, I grew up with Pokemon ever since I started watching the anime at the age of 7. I guess you got my age from my profile.

I was a little older than most when I learned about Pokémon; I was around 14. My best friend, who also introduced me to several other animes, introduced me to it. My brother was also into it for a while but he moved on. My first game was Blue, but as I didn't have a Game Boy, I was forced to play it via emulator. Then I think I played Silver, though I don't really remember doing so. After that, I lost interest in Pokémon for about 5 years, picking up the games again with the first Ranger game and with Pearl. (In case you haven't noticed, I only buy one version of each pair. It's a weird habit I have).

I am pretty excited for the B & W sequels, though I confess I haven't being following the news about them that closely so I'm not sure what to expect from them. And I'm barely past the 2nd gym in the first White game as it is. So maybe I'll wait a bit to get them.

Anyways, send me a VM if you want to chat or contact anyone with a bold name if you have questions (like Shining Raichu there, he mods Other Voting Polls).

Thanks! Hope we can become friends!

Thanks Nemesis! I did work hard on the site. Though I worry sometimes about the colors; I'm usually not a fan of high contrast so I tend to avoid it. And it's not terribly fancy, just some HTML5 and CSS with a few PHP includes. And it will have a blog feed on the home page as soon as I get that set up (probably this weekend; I downloaded WordPress but still need to install it on my site's server, as my current hosting plan doesn't allow for 1-click WordPress installation).

Web design has been one of my hobbies for 10+ years, on and off. I did actually consider majoring in Computer Science in college, but then decided against it because most Computer Science degrees require higher math, and I'm terrible at math. Instead, I majored in Literature and Writing Studies, Writing Studies Emphasis, with a minor in French. I also just got a Certificate of Achievement in Web Development and Design (more or less my backup in case my writing doesn't pan out). But I still have a long way to go in terms of knowledge, mainly because between about 2000 and about 2009 I didn't keep up with web design developments. I don't even know JavaScript, and I only know a little bit of PHP. One of my goals for this summer was to make sure all my web skills were up to par before I start looking for work; but I'm behind in starting that, unfortunately.

I'll definitely check out your site. From how you describe it, some MySQL database backend might prove useful, although sadly I am very unskilled in that area. But if I can help in any way I will try. I need the experience anyway. And thanks for the partnership offer! I'd love that!

If you want to get an idea of my design skills, the web design/web writing portfolio site I made for school is still up, and features all my work from the last three years: https://bit.ly/OyrpUJ
