All I can say is try to make a balanced party of types that help each other out. Like have things that are strong against anothers weakness. Like if u have a blastoise, have a ground and fire also. that way, if your opponent uses a grass type to attack your blastoise u can come back with a fire type. Or if they use an electric type, u can use a ground type. then use a pokemon that supports the ground type and the fire. If u end up with a team in which each pokemon can support another, you have a better chance to win. Hope this helps!

Also, try to teach your Pokemon moves to help counter its weaknesses. For example, Feraligatr's Water type would normally make it a weak Pokemon to use against Electric types. However, if your teach it a Ground-type move, such as Earthquake, it can stand its ground. Also, try not to teach all of your Pokemon offensive moves only. Try to have some status changers, such as Swords Dance and Double Team, as well as moves that alter your opponent's status, like Sleep Powder or Thunder Wave. Another thing you can do with moves is come up with combos with your moves. A good example of this is to first use a move that won't let the opponent switch Pokemon, like Whirlpool or Mean Look, and use Perish Song. If it works, the opponent won't be able to escape, and it will automatically faint after 3 turns. At the 3rd turn, instad of letting your Pokemon faint too, switch it out. Hope all of this helps.

Why don't you post your team here so we can observe it and figure out what your mistakes are? That would help :P
