    First seizures, and now this...

They claim its name is purely coincidental, but I find that highly suspect. I think they just wanted to be able to say that "[turning] Pokemon off" would "stall the malignant process." It has nothing to do with pokemon except for sharing the name. Maybe they wanted people to easily remember the name of the oncogene, or maybe they wanted to give the churchmoms of the world another reason to try to ban videogames.

I can see Nintendo stepping into this requesting they get a little more creative in their naming... like maybe the "Sony PSP" instead so they can protect their precious franchise. :p

EDIT BY MCD: IT'S NOT THE POKEMON GAME THAT CAUSES CANCER, BUT A GENE. PLEASE READ THE LINK ABOVE FOR MORE INFO!

There's nothing to be ashamed of, really.

It's not Pokemon that causes cancer, what it is is that Pokemon is the main switch of cancer.

The medical people aren't going to check videogames to see if it has some mere correlation to a new disease or anything. Pure coincidence, and I'll leave it as that ^_^

You've misunderstood! (Well, this post is misleading anyway...)

POKEMOn is a newly discovered oncogene that happens to be: If POKEMOn is deactivated, the cancer can be stopped!

The full name of this oncogene is POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor

o man my skool does this saying wat gives cancer, Nobody knows wat gives cancer and especialy a video game/tv show/ card game / toys it is just not true

    YOU ARE WRONG!!
READ WHAT I SAID IN MY PREVIOUS POST, PEOPLE!!!

don't just only look at the title! =.=

Yea listen to her, she is right, it dosn't cause cancer, it shares the name of a Medical TERM, foo's ?_?

"Pokemon, which stands for POK erythroid myeloid ontogenic factor"
I can see Nintendo being really unhappy about this XD
Why not call it POKEMOF which is what it should be really >.>

Yea but its good to see that scientists know what pokemon is XD

I don't think pokemon could do that.

MegaDitto - It's not the game that causes cancer, but the gene found in humans. Please do not read the title and jump to conclusions.

I'm sorry about this DeltaSuicune, but to be on the safe side, I'm going to have to edit your post saying that it's not the game, but the gene that causes the cancer. At least jynx gets it... ?_?

Not really...depends if they think it is an honour or a discgrace.

Personally, I think its an honor :P

An honour having a gene that causes cancer named after their product? I'd be a bit insulted if I was Satoru Iwata (I hope I spelt it right... I'm terrible with Japanese names) XD

oh sorry people P.O.K.E.M.O.N gives u cancer and not pokemon sorry for the confusion

Not really that insulting...its not a gene that cause cancer by the way.

    Technically, all oncogenes cause cancer.
The only difference is, if you switch POKEMOn off, the others won't have the chance to move.

actually it is genes that cause cancer i learnt it in my last minute revision for my gcses parts of the dna get mutated because of radiation an stuff
