6th Gen Horde Encounters

In generation Six, there was a wild battle mechanic known as Horde Encounters, in which, five wild Pokemon are up against your single Pokemon. Defeating multiple Pokemon at once awards EVs, if I recall. I hear it's also easier for shiny hunting. You can manually trigger a Horde Encounter by using Honey or Sweet Scent, and some horde encounters can have a mix of Pokemon, such as Zangoose and Seviper horde (in which they'll attack eachother instead.) Horde Battles have not since returned, however. There was also a couple of Horde Trainer battles in OR/AS, but not many.

What did you think of Horde Encounters? Have you ever encountered a shiny Pokemon in a horde? I did once, it was amazing.

Hordes are still to this day my favorite method of EV training, because certain routes only have one potential horde encounter. You know exactly where to go and using Honey or Sweet Scent guarantees they appear. I can't recall if I got a shiny from this method, but I still love it for the ease it brought to EV training.
