Well folks, looks like Houston may become a future target of Hurricane Rita's wrath, but not to worry, we are fully prepared for the battle that may take place. We are so ready for this, its not even funny, and I'd love to tell ya your website's uptime is guaranteed, but...well, its kinda hard to predict how bad Rita's taste for death will be on D-DAY. From the looks of things, she may be one mean, nasty.....whats the word? well, you get the point.
so, yeah...here are a few things we got goin' on to make sure your little webbies are safe and sound...
We have 36-48 hours of fuel (you know that wasn't cheap) on site and guaranteed contracts to have more fuel delivered in 2 hours.
All of our "bad-boy" fiber providers have similar backup systems to us in place, and we provide the power for their equipment on our end.
We do have a drainage canal next to our datacenter. Even during Tropical Storm Allison which dumped over 36" of rain in this area of town, there was never any danger of our datacenter flooding and the water receeded in a matter of hours. The generators and HVAC equipment is built up approx. 4' above grade.
Please remember that this is not a New Orleans type situation, we are well above sea level and though there may be some street flooding as a result of a lot of rain, we see thunderstorm type events every year that dump more rain then the normal 4-6 inches that occur with a hurricane.
We have implemented our emergency storm plans and have an additional backup generator for our datacenter on the way, it is also wired up and in place, we also have procured plenty of plywood and supplies to board up windows should the storm indeed come this way. We will also pickup food and water supplies for our datacenter crews tomorrow should they have to stay at the datacenter for an extended amount of time.
All of the LOBD, Inc. staff will be bunkering in the datacenter/in hotels near the datacenter to respond quickly to any downtime that may occur. I will be coffee-fueled and ready for anything through-out this time.
I will be drafting a email to all of our clients later this night or early in the morning on the status of all. Got a few more important things to cover first here.
We will make it through this.
Please be aware, support mediums such as tickets, im, live chat are shut down for the time being.
We will update you on all the status.
On a side note, we also have some anti-theft/looting measures in place, which includes 12 boxes of doveload...dont worry, nobody's gettin' in hea! Don't mess with Texas!
