How did The Treehouse get to be so spammy?

It's only been in the past year I've noticed all sorts of.. random crap just being posted for the sake of it.. and replies that are just about people trying to be funny and get as many likes as possible.

So.. what happened? And why? Guess everyone's taking more of a chill attitude but it's just weird to come back after almost 11 years of being on this site and only in the past year or so that it's been like this.

    Thoughts?

To be honest, I don't mind laid back topics as long as there is some sort of context. Threads such as the gif war or that how to be a panda thing are good examples of threads I don't really like. There's no context in the first post yet people seem to know what to respond next meanwhile I'm just like, uhhh?

I guess the idea was to indeed promote a more laid back atmosphere here

Though it goes without saying that some of the thread content since then has been nothing short of Taco Bell beef in terms of quality

Syn basically summed it up by saying that we are indeed trying to create a more laid back atmosphere than this forum had previously. We want to encourage more creative topics that allow discussion to flow freely as if you were conversing with a friend and less "post and go" threads where there isn't much discussion and just simply replying to the OP and leaving. While I do agree that some threads do become a bit spammy and aren't very high in quality, for the most part I feel like the forum is headed in a good direction. It's still a work in progress but the forum seems to be pretty enjoyable!

Audry, this is tamer then it was. There were 2 threads about butts, one about boobs, one about bread puns and a ton about absolutely nothing.

I remember a few of those bread threads but the butts and boobs ones would've gotten an insta-ban just a couple of years ago.

I don't really mind things being more laid back.. it's just a bit weird to see and I'm unsure nowadays what's appropriate or not.. or what I should even be reporting.
I guess if no one's flaming or being mean to each other then it's all good <3

I've only been here long enough to know that it was always like that for me. are you trying to tell me that this place had quality?

Quality is a bit of a stretch. Think of the forum as a cafeteria, where the topics are the food served. Now, back in the sepia tone days of Other Chat, the food in question was regular old gruel, with maybe some flavouring sprinkled on every every tenth serving. But over time, the students got tired of the same old gruel, so they started bringing other brands of gruel from home. They didn't have the mind to bring flavouring as well, so the different brands of gruel weren't that much different from the generic, school-sanctioned brand. Regardless, the chef did not like this and promptly gave two weeks notice. The new chefs were supportive of the students, but didn't change the brand of gruel. However, the students were content to bring their own brands of gruel and things settled down in the cafeteria for quite some time. Some time later, one of the chefs was fired for bringing muffins into the cafeteria instead of gruel. That was independent of the changes in the cafeteria but indicative of a wider shift in gruel thought. Students started putting food colouring in their gruel, brought in fancy containers to parade the gruel around, one or two students even started bringing in sugar. In response to this wild new atmosphere in the cafeteria, the PTA appointed new chefs directly from the student population. These chefs knew what the students wanted and gave it to them: Krusty Brand Imitation Gruel and all the flavouring they could possibly want. No solid food as of yet, but the students went wild. They poured containers of Krusty Brand Imitation Gruel onto the floor and put their heaving bodies into the mixture. But it wasn't enough. Soon they were mixing it with their own faeces, wiping it on the walls and covering every solid surface with the gruel. This continued for a small time before the chefs were forced to hit the fire alarm and let the sprinklers wash the gruel away. The students eventually calmed out of their rabid state and went back to eating their normal Krusty Brand Imitation Gruel as it was served by the chefs. Sometimes fecal matter still manages to be ingested, but the students are so used to it by now that they accept it as just another flavouring. This is where we are now.

do we need gordon ramsay for kitchen nightmares

There's no problem with the laid back environment actually, as long as no one's starting flames like moons ago when I was relatively new on PC nor people purposely trying to cross the line.
