Sorry if this isn't the right place (it was a debate between other entertainment and here) so please move this if you have to.

OK, how do you people here on PC feel about bands that express their political beliefs in their music. Examples are: Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against

I think the way Rise Against goes with this thing is fine. They don't try to "force" their message like Rage does, there isn't a lot of swearing, and they have some pretty good points. Like on Prayer of the Refugee (see video of it for better description), the lyrics explain the stories of people across the world in poverty, or on (some song... can't remember) where the message is to save the environment, and they also threw in the action/reaction thing at the end.

The reason I don't like to go overboard with Rage songs (I do like them btw... Tom Morello = AWESOMESAUCE!!). I personally think the throw their massage out at you, whether you like it or not. They go overkill on the swearing (Guerilla Radio... good riffs, bad lyrics) and their words can sometimes mean nothing. I know they try to do good, but it backfires on some things.

How do you all feel about this subject? Please post an example if you can ^.^

Yeah, it' about music, so to OE it goes.

Anyway, I despise seeing political messages in music. It just seems like pop-aganda to me. Fans will hear it and most likely agree with it without question.

Furthermore, you have those singing about issues already well known in the media - doesn't it ever seem like they're just leeching off the hype for their own popularity?

I just think they should remain separate, that's all.

    Anyway ....

I really don't care about anything in music; atleast if it's bad. If it has a good beat and if I can lose myself in it, then I ... just don't care, frankly ;/

Every song speaks a message. Even if the words aren't what one would love, the actual music is deeper than the words can ever get.

It's all in a band's personality and style.

If Paris Hilton made a protest song, I would be confused.

When Rise Against does it, it makes more sense.

Political bands are okay, if a band is political or apolitical, it doesn't matter to me.
