Uh. I saw this on another site. This is actually sorta interesting.

    They add
    Code:
    index.php?ipscheck=1&key=ipscheck$1@@
to the end of the URL to find out license stuff.

This might not be the only way though.

IPB 1.3 is a free version of IPB . The other higher versions. are exceptions though. That may be what Jelsoft does to find ilegall vB. And even if they find I have an illegall one which I don't they won't be able to catch me.:P

I'm not sure how Jelsoft finds pirated boards, but you actually have to enter the URL of your board in the member area.
Whenever they suspect a board to be pirated, they probably search the whole directory.

So, if you are using an illegal board and someone reports you, they might find out very quickly.

I think vB's have a script that "calls home" to Jelsoft. Don't quote me on that though.

No, they don't have a "call home"...

It relies on people reporting suspicious URLs, and then they search their database.

Actually... it's possible that they have a script that reads the e-mails first checking them up against the database before the actual team gets them.
