Yes, I have taken a huge chunk of my time, once again, to bring you this. So I proudly bring to you, once again,

    How To make Role-Play Post

    Table of Contents:

    I. Basic Rules
    II. Formats of RPing
    III. Spelling and Grammar
    IV. Story Format
    V. Role-Play Format
    VI. Powerplaying
    VII. Creativity

More will be added to here as I go on, check this out frequently.

    Basic Rules

Okay these are rules that are probably good to follow, if you don't want to get in trouble with the mods, and other rpers here.

1.Powerplaying - Okay this is my pet peeve. Powerplaying is when you make your character or characters invincible, or perfect, also controlling other peoples characters without premission. Yes I confess I have been caught powerplaying, in the perfect devision, but I got that fixed up, and now I'm good.

    2. Spamming - Wow! This is surprisingly a bigger problem than people want to think! Role-Play spam is way different than regular spamming. Spamming here is, posting one or two sentence role-play post. Also not making new paragraphs for new speakers is also spamming, cause it's just one big mess, and it's too confusing to figure out.

    3. Spelling - Tri too kep from speeling liek thsi. Yes I know it's hard to keep from spelling "the" "teh" when you're typing fast. But please go back and proofread what you posted after you posted it, cause some rpers are sensitive to poor spelling and they may get annoyed and complain.

    4. Grammar - Okay this is a big for some of you, bad grammar. Here are some of the sentence structures I've seen in rp post:

I give you $5 and I go away.

Yes that is what some of the rpers post are like, and they're not talking to anyone, and it's kind of hard to figure out who they posted this to, if there are 5 or 6 rpers rping that rp. So watch grammar.

That's all I got for rules right now. But if anyone has anything else to add feel free to post it.

    Formats of Role-Play

There are only two formats, that I know of. One is the most annoying way to role-play on a rp I've ever known! The other one is my favorite way. But if there are more ways then feel free to correct me.

Story Format - This is when you put "" around what a character says and describe in full detail the actions and emotions of your character. Example:

"Joe I'm going to go to the store and buy some bread." Jimmy sighed as he took the money from his piggy bank.

"Okay Jim, be quick now!" Joe said smiling.

Role-Play Format - This is annoying when you're on an rp, but it comes in handy when you're posting on other threads besides RPs. It's when you cover actions in ** and speaking parts are left out of them. Example:

*walks into store and looks around* Now where is the peanut butter? *walks up an isle* There it is!

Okay my examples were really corny but I'm rushed right now, I have to help with a yard sale, so be back soon! Enjoy the intro, I get harder! XD

I'm tired of editing my first post, yeah I'm double posting! Okay kiddies, what I am about to do is very bad, it's called double posting, and you usually get a warning for double posting or get warned by your fellow rpers, but for all purposes, there are no rpers, and this is a help thread. If a mod wants this in my first post then they can feel free to put it there, you have my permission! XD

    Spelling and Grammar

English class! YAY! haha okay yes, this is what all of your english teacher have been teaching you. Spell your words right and use your best grammar skills. Example of a good post (I do this for all of you!):

Jimmy woke up the next morning, feeling exausted and hungry. He took a shower and got dressed, and before he could do anything else, his mother yelled, "Jimmy, come down for breakfast!"

Filled with frustration toward everything around him, he snapped back, "I'm coming!" He then walked slowly down the stairs after he finished getting dressed. He then found himself standing in front of an angry mother.

Her face was bright red and Jimmy just leaned against the wall and waited for her to say something. Finally she burst and said, "Jimmy, how many times have I asked you to pick up the laundry on your way downstairs! You're so irresponsible!"

Jimmy laughed and said cooly, "What!? You're the one who wanted me to hurry and get down here!"

"Don't back talk to me, young man! Get the laundry and take it to the washer, then come get breakfast!" She said as her head got redder, and then she stomped off to the kitchen to yell at something stupid Jimmy's father did.

Okay! There are some key points to this post I want to point out.

    1. Please note I'm not the worlds perfect speller, I'm sure I spelled "leaned" wrong and acouple other words. But the point is spell to the best of your ability.

    2. Notice how I made a new paragraph everytime some else spoke. This is what you're supposed to do.

    3. This is what a normal story format post should look like. Study it, take notes on it, and learn the way of story mode. Don't worry there will be more story mode examples where that came from.

Here's a Role-Play example (Note: i don't like using this in rps, so I'm not really good at this, and it's just so sloppy):

    *gets up and takes shower*

*mother yells* Jimmy, Come down for breakfast!

    *gets changed* I'm coming.

Okay I'm done with that, it's hard for me to do that, I also want to point out some things about this.

    1. I'm not good at this when I'm seriously rping.

    2. You can't show emotions and it limits what you can right down to actions and speaking.

    3. You can't see how all the characters feel, you just have to guess how they feel.

    4. There is one good thing about that post! I spelt everything right! YAY! Otherwise I don't recommend using this format for rps.

    Story Format

Ah, I could go on all day with this subject. But I'll sum it up in a nutshell...or at least try.

Use "" for when someone is speaking, make sure you clearly state who is speaking by puting said, or says. It depends on what tense you use. I prefer past tense because it's easier to understand what is being said.

Make sure to make a new paragraph when someone different speaks, even if it's only between two people, otherwise it's just spam. And make a new paragraph for different subjects like say your in a bar, then you go to your house. You would make a new paragraph when your inside the house.

When putting thoughts use ' ' or italics thoughts. This will eliminate all confusion between someone speaking out loud, and someone who is thinking something. I like to italics thoughts so there is a very very clear difference between thoughts and spoken word.

Okay there will be more to be added here, if you want to add something feel free to do so. Well that's the short version, now if you want the long version, you'll need to give me about a half hour and it'll be ready. Just say something if you want the full version.

First person- I will be going over this later but for the sake of letting people know that there is different views. First person is when you control the characters actions by rping in the characters point of view. Like use I instead of he/she. More to come on this in later sections

Third Person- Controlling a characters actions but being the "narrator". Using words like he/she or his/her to desribe the gender of your character. As with first person more to come on this in later sections.

    Role-Play Format

And I'm sorry I even made this a section! I mean I can't even do it right! And there is no real rules for this, it's kind of like a cheap shortcut for those who don't want to do story mode in rps. But here's Role-Play format in a almondshell...

Tradionally this is used, not for rps, but for regular posting. Example, here's how I normally enter the "Do you have a crush on anyone in PC?" (I'm such a dork! that's what you get for hanging around 100marios for too long! XD):

*enters down from heaven in a glorious light* *gets struck by lightning* Ouch! Now that hurt! So anymore crushes?

But some genius, don't ask me who started this cause I have no clue, anyway desided to bring that into rps. Which totally screws up the whole thing of fun, because some people wnat to cheat by not typing out their posts in paragraphs.

Well there you go! That's Role-Play in a almondshell.

    Powerplaying

Okay I could rant and rave about this all I wanted, but it wouldn't do any good. So instead of going on this big speak about the evils of powerplaying, I've prepared this for you:

Powerplaying is acting invincible, controling other peoples characters and pokemon, in this case. And also being perfect. This gets on everyone's nerves. So don't do it.

There Mods. they have officially been warned, and they know what powerplaying is now, cause I put the definition up twice. So they have no excuses! MWAHAHAHA! Not that I've seen anyone powerplaying here so far...GOOD JOB EVERYONE! Give yourselves a pat on the back!

Don't forget to comment on huge blocks of text that should be broken up into several sentences. That's a big pet peeve of mine, and one of the things that puts me off RPing here. Several lines of description is nice, but it needs to be broken up into sentences and paragraphs. One huge block of text isn't very interesting to read, and can often be confusing. Especially when that's combined with bad grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Double the size of the text above, add bad spelling and grammar, and that's what some people RP like. It's not fun to read.

    *rant mode off*

Also, stress the matter of advancing throughout the story. Some people go too far out with creativity and the post is meaningless to the plot.

For example, adding in too much creativity such as giving a full description of every thing you run into. Or rambling on about how the buildings of Saffron City.

I see this a bit in my RPG and a couple of other places.

(Just to make sure you add this in the Creativity part, when you do I'll delete it.)

Isn't power playing the controlling of a character and godmodding the invincible?

NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH DETAIL! That's good if you see that much detail. Take time to read it like it was a book, I love it when detail is given! It's such a great thing!

    Creativity

Yes it's that time once again! Creativity with your friend Raichu Master! *hits applause button* *applause* *fades away* Okay, here again is all the pointers I have to make sure you have the max creativity in your post.

REMEMBER: You can never be too creative, as in detail, RPing is like painting, the more detail you put into it, the better it is.

Description- Yes this is a big part of it! Make sure you take time to decribe your surrounding and the sights your character sees!

Imagination- Yes it takes imagination even in rping. Such as making a good plot, and not making it to quick or come up too sudden. Make the rp fun and interesting! It is up to you as an individual rper to do that, and if everyone does that or trys their best, then hey, you got a great rp! Remember it only takes one careless rper to ruin what might have been a great rp.

Post Sizes- Yes the longer the post, possibly, the better the post is. So make it as long as you can a minimum of 3 paragraphs! MINIMUM OF 3 PARAGRAPHS! Did you read that? MINIMUM OF 3 PARAGRAPHS! Okay now I know you read it. Good so you need a minimum of 3 paragraphs in each rp post. This will make sure it's not spam, and make sure it's a decent post. if you get a really good paragraph in a REALLY REALLY good paragraph in that's the only loophole, but that's highly unlikely, because then your paragraph would be too sloppy, but I guess it's possible.

I'm not trying to insult you RM but you mostly do less than 3 paragraphs.

It's creativE. Not creativITY. That makes no sense.

Hey! Don't make fun of my spelling problems! I'll fix it.

Insult? Nah! It's just I get braindead all the time, or don't want to end up powerplaying others characters, so I can make the next move. And that's in the other rp board. I need to edit my Pokemon Academy rp post. It's spam! So I shall fix it by making it larger!

    OK. One liners= Spam!
    Description two liners= Not spam.

It has to be atleast a paragraph to be considered, not spam. But even a paragraph can be spam! It depends on the material in the paragraph, which is were creativity comes in at.

Like I had a two liner and made it 5 paragraphs, in pokemon academy.

Ok. 5 lines are considered not spam. I know this because I was taught by the great Aiya Quackform herself!

I'm not an english teacher! If I was then this would be Role-Playing 101! Wait....this basically is! O_o

You could have a good 5 sentence post, but remember creativity. If it's just 5 sentences then forget it, it's just spam. A minimum of 8 sentences in a paragraph if no one is speaking and if all the actions are related.

Actually, I said lines. Not sentences. You could have about 10 sentences in 5 lines and it wouldn't be spammy!

No then you have a grammar problem! Cause then they would be fragments, which is a grammar error and not spam, if the fragments have detail then all you have to do is combine them and all that fun stuff. Yes and about 8 lines a paragraph, too. My sentences take up lines, so I have no problem. But remember 3 PARAGRAPHS! Only use lines if you have a really really good paragraph.

3 paragraphs. Please. You can only do that without powerplaying if you have about 1 and a half-3 characters!

I manage more than three paragraphs on average with just one character. You don't have to powerplay at all...

    RM, you should be able to further divide "story format" into "1st-person" and "3rd-person". And one more thing-there definitely is a point when there can be too much description (IMO, anyways…). I was in the Pokemon RP Olympics, and people would end up posting 2-3 page posts in Msword, for something that would usually only take a few paragraphs! Description is a good thing, but if you drag on, all you do is bore other rpers… This is just my opinion ^.^;
