My name is Justine, but I also go by my handle! JLuma or Luma for short ^-^

I am finally discovering this place after Relic Castle's shutdown... I am not the most social but I wanna make the effort! I had a fangame posted on Relic Castle but I would like to at least introduce myself before I go about trying to share it here!

Some things to know about me is that my favorite Pokémon is Murkrow (or Honchkrow depending on my mood!) and my favorite games in the series are HeartGold/Soulsilver and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon ^0^ I'm always happy to hear what other's favorites are across the series!

Hello Luma, and welcome to the forums!
It is alright, there are more people here who are not very social than you might think! ^^
The fan games showcase section is the right place to share your fan game! What features did you put in yours ?

HG / SS and US / UM are nice games indeed. My own favourites are Red (the nostalgia), Black 2 (best means to train Pokémon among other things), and Gold (nostalgia too ^^).

    ... Murkrow...
Err, sorry, this Gardevoir here has a... bad story with a certain band of Murkrow, hehe... Well, my own top favourite Pokémon is Charizard, always has been since Red!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Alas my game is still only a demo, but the key features to note in that demo (aside from QOL Features found in modern Pokemon games):

    - 4+ Hours of Main Story gameplay with an optional post!
    - Over 50 Unique Species of Pokemon from Gens 1-8 to Catch (totaling for over 130 Pokemon that can be obtained through Evolution)
    - Two new regional variants with more to come in future releases
    - An original story in a new region with hand drawn character portraits and CGs to help better tell the story
    - A Sidequest system as well as a Pokédex Stretch Goal Completion Request that all reward you for our efforts
    - The choice to start off with EXP All or stick with the original EXP Share

I mainly create the game to tell a story while also giving people a Pokémon game that can provide a fun and fair challenge with the qol changes of modern pokemon games!

And of course you have very good game taste as well! Truthfully I have not played the original Red or Blue (I grew up with Yellow) but Black 2 is undeniably one of the best in the series! And Gen 2 nostalgia is always valid (I just love the Sprite work in this game, especially at night ;v;), I'm currently going through Crystal again, on my way to Blackthorn!

And I'm sorry to hear ): Charizard is always a good pick though! He's an icon for a reason!

Neat! I like fan games which have a good story and interesting characters. The funny thing is that it is a Pokémon character in the Reborn fan game who inspired me! ^^

I loved to play Gold in colors, on TV through N64, the Pokémon Stadium 2 game and its adaptator device, the night time was lovely with the night blue and the yellow lights!

Dragon look, winged, breathing fire, looking so cool, what more does it need ? ^^

I'm quite proud of what I've managed to get done! I've always wanted to make it since like… during the ORAS days (Magma vs Aqua hype had me in a chokehold ^^') but I never had a good grasp of RPG Maker until like… 2020 so I'm finally making slow but decent headway into the project!

But interesting! I have yet to play Reborn still… In terms of fan games/rom hacks tho, I'm currently going through Prism on my 3DS (once more, I'm just a sucker for the Gen 2 aesthetic ;v;) I'll be sure to keep it in mind whenever I do go through it tho!

Oh my god that sounds so cool!! On a CRT, I'm sure it looked so beautiful :0

An extra form that makes it look even cooler than what it already was! (I'm so looking forward to Charizard X to come back in Legends Z-A!)

Reborn, and its developers team other games are quite tough with challenging battles, not to count hairpulling puzzles!
    Spoiler:

But I do love to see Pokémon used as characters, with dialogues, tied to the story (it might have helped that said Pokémon characters happen to be of my second favourite species, which you can easily guess ^^). Pokémon characters, and with an important role in the story, are sadly a rarity in fan games.

Oh I love a good challenge and love it when there's available resources to tell me what's where and such! Playing Pokémon Blazed Glazed taught me the importance of having such resources available for your game!

That's completely fair! My fangame has a Magearna who is essentially the game's deuteragonist and guides the player through their adventure. You aren't entirely trustful of her at first, but you'll learn quickly that she truly wants nothing more than to be by your side, not just as a guide, but as your friend. I wanted to utilize her so much I made it to where you can "talk" to her whenever so she can give you information about your current screen or point you in the right direction if you forgot where to go (and by "talk" I mean call her through the PokéGear because I don't know how else to handle that idea ^^'). The theme I use for her also happens to be Gardevoir's theme from PMD: Rescue Team hehe.

Still, to hear that they're a rarity is interesting. There can definitely be more room for such ideas! Of course, no pressure to anyone who doesn't!

    A Magearna ? Nice!
Now I am eager to try this game of yours when it is ready. I wish you the best of luck seeing it reach completion!

    Hello!
HGSS and USUM are great games =3
I loved seeing the follower Pokemon way back in HGSS and USUM was just a breath of fresh air for Pokemon, with some very nice new additions =3

Do you have a favorite starter?
Do you have a preference for one of the starter types when picking one ?

I just have so much nostalgia for HGSS and the content it packs! And USUM is just so much fun to play through, the Pokemon options are super huge and the game offers such a cool challenge with Totem Pokemon as well as giving every major trainer EV and IV builds!
Do you have a favorite starter?
Do you have a preference for one of the starter types when picking one ?
And depending on my mood i cycle between Cyndaquil or Litten! Whenever a new Generation comes out tho, i always go Fire! Two exceptions to this are Gen 3 where i chose Mudkip and Gen 6 where I chose Chespin :D What about you?

I don't have a real preference for a type when picking starters tbh, but I have noticed I generally like the designs of the Water and Grass ones more.
Grass starters to me have always just been really solid, they aren't always the best looking one of the three, but there isn't a single one who's final stage I actually dislike, which I can't say for Water/Fire starters unfortunately.

As for a favorite starter... I can't decide between Delphox, Meowscarada/Meganium...
I love all 3 of them, though at this point I do think I'd pick each of those over Empoleon, which is my favorite Water starter, so there's that.

How do you feel about regional forms? Are there any you like more than the original?
I'm a huge fan of Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales and Galarian Ponyta/Rapidash myself, to name a few =3

For the most part I like every single starter and their final designs! It's just very unfortunate that, for me, if I dislike any starters, I may just not like those generation starters as a whole. Those specific generations are then Gen 6 and 8 starters if im being completely honest ^^' though, if I were to choose any to salvage from those two gens, it would definitely be the grass starters though!

It's a good set to choose from! As I said, I tend to choose fire starters on new playthroughs, so when Gen 9 came out I chose Fuecoco. Then I saw what Sprigatito would eventually become, so on my second playthrough I chose Sprigatito for Meowscarada :D But Empoleon is always a good choice, I do believe Gen 4 and 7's starters are some of the strongest in the series. They're all so good!

And regional variants are one of the best things introduced into the series! As someone who LOVES Mega Evolution, Regional Variants are like the next step to that. The fact they get all new designs and utility makes it so exciting to look forward to what's to come every time a new game is on the way! And yes, there's tons, the ones you said are incredibly well done (tho I do wish Rapidash became a Pegasus ;-;) but if I had to name specific ones, I'll gladly say Alolan Muk and Hisuian Zoroark!

    Welcome to the ship! ^_^

Wow looks like there's another fangame I have to add to my list. I'll be sure to follow the thread whenever you make one! The Magearna concept sounds really cool, and getting help thru calls and stuff is optional right? So not too handholdy. Though I could see maybe getting hints when you go into a certain area to trigger a flag of some sort. Maybe things like in the middle or at the end of the conversation call where she'd say "Oh did you know you can find X Pokémon here? I hear it can help a lot against a certain gym. But it's really rare/requires lots of training" or "If you talk to this person [describe physical features, outfit, etc] they'll give you some kind of item/TM"

Just some suggestions I guess, but I'm no game creator at all haha, just a humble player :3 So I won't take any offense if you forgo it 😊

Oh! And you have a favorite Pokémon/evo line, but do you have a favorite character? Could be anime, games or manga? maybe you've got one in each? Maybe it's someone you relate to, or just like their style, or find them attractive, or somethin.
    Fangames too!

I like N and Dawn, I feel like I'd be them in the Pokémon world

The thread actually went live yesterday! It's only a demo with the first gym, but there's still lots to explore with the areas present there! And technically I already do that as well! Though the additional Pokémon hints are useful since Larvitar is a well hidden encounter at the moment, so I'll definitely tweak some stuff moving forward to help with this concept! Thank you for the advice!

I unfortunately do not dabble in too much Pokemon media outside of the games (though this doesn't mean I don't love the spinoffs!) If I had to choose favorite characters though, I'll gladly answer Guzma and Penny! I even bought a Guzma jacket off of Etsy (and it was super insult to injury that after I did that, Pokémon released an official Guzma jacket ;-; ). I just think the concept of Team Skull is super cool and Guzma makes for a memorable Team Leader. Penny is just fun and I really love her design! Plus both of these characters have awesome battle music too :3

N is very good too! The idea of the main antagonist also being one of your rivals is done so well with him and his final battle theme in BW1 is genuinely spine chilling! And Dawn is always going to be one of the most iconic Female Players in the series!

I picked Cyndaquil in Gold! It is cute, and I love its line! And Fire is my favourite type, Flamethrower is best move! ^^
And I also picked Mudkip in Ruby, Water / Ground is a great double type. And once evolved, my Swampert plowed through the whole game all on its own, League included! At the end it was just like : Surf! KO, next! Earthquake! KO, next! etc... XD

Fire is always going to be a solid type! It's just too good… and I can't ever go through Gen 3 without choosing mudkip… It's Mudkip!

Hello there JLuma, and welcome to the PC! I would've said a proper hello sooner, but have been on light duty this last week.

I hope you've been having a good time on the forums so far! Do you have any favorite sections to post in?
