Maybe you have long, deep, onesided conversations with your cat, or perhaps you call your dog mean names and titter with fiendish delight as it wags its tail anyways. Could it be that your fish knows all your deep dark secrets? Or maybe you just like to teach your pet bird naughty words.

In any case, do you talk to your pets (or any animals really)? And if you do, what kinds of things do you say to them? If you don't, do you think any differently of people who do, like they're strange or crazy?

Though I do have a few cats of my own, I seldom talk to them.

To those people that do actually have one-sided conversations with animals, I don't see them as a strange or crazy person, but rather, someone who's sad & lonely. They're those who everyone gives them the cold shoulder if they even try to make conversation with other people, & for most of them, their pets are their only form of company.

Oh my god, this thread was MADE for me. I vent everything to my dog. Had a bad day? I'll probably tell my dog about it. Someone pissed me off? I'll go and tell my dog how much I don't like them. I sometimes wonder if she gets sick of listening to me. Hahaha.

    Legit, this is me.

Cats are very clever animals, and I think they (mine, at least) can understand human speech, and I mean they can't tell anyone else what I rant about, so yeah. I talk to my cats, what of it? They're good listeners.

I don't have any pets, but when I did, I did talk to them a lot. Nowadays I just talk to myself or inanimate objects.

Not at all. I talk to my pets in the sense of being like, "Come here ___!" or "You're so cute ___!" As for like actually telling them about my day or anything that involves an actual conversation, no.

I talk to my cat, which is pointless because he's deaf. I like to alternate between "you're so adorable I love you" to just flat out lying to him and telling him that no one loves him and things like that, I guess I'm a mean person but I pet him anyway haha. A lot of the time when I say something to him my mom will be around so she'll guess what his reply is.

I actually do talk with my two cats or my grandma's dog. Not sure if they understand or not, but I know they just want to be the center of attention.

Speech is the human equivalent to a cat's mewing, and so on; ergo, I find that non-humans respond well to being spoken to, and that I respond better to them for their own vocalisations. I don't hold one-sided conversations; nor do I talk to things that don't vocalise, like fish and insects, as neither party would benefit from it. I also only talk much to animals I am familiar with, just as with people.

I talk to my pets. I think its sort of natural for us to do even though the animal may not understand the speech. My cat talks to me all the time by meowing, that's just what she does and that's her method of talking to me, animals do pay attention when spoken too, they know enough to realize you are trying to communicate with them in my opinion, they just cant communicate back in our language.

I talk to my cats all the time. They don't really respond, but generally they do at least look at me while I'm talking. Unless they see something more interesting. Like some fluff on the floor or something.

I don't think my cats like me very much, or care about what's happening in my life. It's probably because I let my dad feed them instead of me feeding them. They never eat it anyway.

I don't have conversations with my dog but I will talk to him. I tend to treat him like I would do to one of my sisters.
Say for example if he were to walk into the living room, slam onto the floor and start rolling around on his back trying to bite his tail I'll tell him that he's acting like an idiot. Or if he's nudging my hand and pawing at me to give him a treat I'll say "You're such a spoiled brat, do you know how much you've eaten today?".

Yeah, I talk to my cats quite often actually, or at least as often as they're around. I don't really have anything in general that I say to them other than just small-talk, even though they don't respond, though often, when something's on my mind I just feel like I need to tell it to someone whom I know won't respond, since I really hate talking to other about my own problems :p But yeah, I do talk to my pets.

I don't talk to my cats, but my entire family does. And what's worse is that they also imagine the cats' responses and then say them in a derpy voice expecting me to laugh.

If you wanna talk to your pets that's fine, more power to you. But don't do it around me because it's annoying lol.

I talk to my pet birds sometimes mainly trying to teach them naughty words though so I guess that doesnt count.
I havent really had a real conversation with any of my pets though, I wonder what they would even have to say back to me..
And if you wanna talk to your animals go for it, as long as it doesnt effect me I dont mind at all.

Oh yeah, I talk to my dog all the time. Whether I'm giving her a belly rub and going all "Who's a good doggy? Who wants a belly-rub? You do! Yes, you do!" or just telling her some of my issues when I'm taking her out on a walk, or ever just using her existence to pretend I'm actually having a conversation instead of just talking to myself, which is a fairly often occurrence. It's never anything meaningful, and would mostly sound similar to baby-talk, but when I'm around her, I probably talk to my dog every day at some point.

My cat is too adorable to have conversations around, let alone venting any talk of dumb co-workers, slow drivers, life troubles, and nihilistic tirades on.

I find scratching her ears and rubbing her back to be enough.
