So for only $70 (reasonably priced IMO), I just purchased a hardware clone of the GBA called the Revo K101 Plus. It's a hardware clone, so it will play GBA cartridges. It will also emulate rom files for Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo Entertainment System, and the Sega Master System. It has a rechargeable battery, all the ports for attachments the original GBA has, and the ability to output the audio/video to TV. Why does it have 4 buttons? I can't be sure, but the company that develops the handheld does continuous firmware updates and I'm assuming one day they eventually plan on including a Super Nintendo emulator.
Here's some more pictures of it:
That last picture in the spoiler up above is what the company calls a K-Card. It's a GBA cartridge with a Micro-SD card slot built into it. Rom files can be loaded onto the Micro-SD card and the card placed inside the GBA cartridge, the cartridge into the system, and the rom files played on the Revo K101+. I Purchased it mostly because I enjoy an actual handheld system with buttons (as opposed to phone emulators which are touchscreen) and because it doesn't seem like there's going to be any shortage of rom hacks from Gens 1-3 anytime soon. There's a bunch of great rom hacks that were just released or are going to be released this summer. I sort of bought this in anticipation of some great upcoming rom hacks.
Has anyone played with something like this? If so, what did you think of it? I know there's plenty of variations out there (K1 GBA, GCW-Zero, JDX models, A380e pocket retro game emulator). What do you think of this? Good purchase or bad idea?
