Anyone have ideas for the next Windows version?Any ideas of what it will look like?I personally think that it will be like what XP was to ME a by far enhanced version of Vista.I have no name though. What are your thoughts on it?

As long as it's somewhat similar to Vista, I'll be happy :)

Theres not really much that they can add imo, judging by the beta, it seems almost identical to Vista except with minor tweaks.

In it's final form, it's actually slated to be a revamp the likes of System 9 -> OSX. That is to say, that no Win32 software will run natively anymore; it'll all be virtualised. Only the new Win7 binaries will run natively; but ultimately this is the best way to ditch 20 years of legacy crap.

They should start from scratch and not use the old NT platform.

    Something superior yet more efficient.

I really feel that they need to rethink the UI anyway. Vista's was just way too juxtaposition. anyway, I really hope they address the system requirements as well, Vista takes just way too much for it's eye candy. as for the virtualization for anything Win32, I really hope they do it. thats the road that is needed, to start from scratch and just build a whole new core. It would give windows a much better stability rating amongst developers.

Vista was supposed to be what Windows 7's apparently going to be.

From what I've heard from many people so far is the fact that apparently Windows 7 is going to be completely built from the ground up. Hence, it's going to be completely different from any Windows version that's currently out there.

Seeing as it's being built completely from scratch, expect a more solid OS with less junk mixed in with a hopefully re-designed UI.

    Thank God. Here's hoping it's Unix-based.

NT actually had it's roots in OS/2 combined with some subsets of Unix-based-code. So in a way, Vista can be traced back to a Unix root :3

If Vista was "buggy", for example, then Vista wouldn't do very well at all at sales.

If that were true, the sales of vista would have slipped into negatives.

I hate the idea of "moving on" from thousands of good programs - you see a good DOS program, chances are it doesn't work.
Do we really want different executable formats to screw up the software base beyond recognition?

Do we really want to hold onto legacy file formats for another 20 years?

I completely agree with you Gerri, they just need to start from the ground up. In my opinon, Vista was only XP but with prettier graphics.

Maybe the next Windows OS should be based from Linux? [/sarcasm]

Same here actually, I hope its no as reliable as the Iphone. Awful
