If I trained my Pokemon up loads in random battle until they were all on say level 50, then went to the 2nd gym, will the pokemon in the 2nd gym still level 10 ish?

Or does the DS work out what level you are at and make the gym team the same ish.

The gyms are set and can't be changed. The Pokémon in the second gym will be the pre-programmed level, and can't change, unless you hack your game. Good luck on getting all of your Pokémon to level fifty though, with such low-leveled opponents.

    ^^^What he said^^^

I dont know why you'd wanna do that anyway, you can beat the gym leaders on lower levels as long as you aim for SE damage. The game doesnt get challenging until about 7th badge, save your effort for then

I suggest you to watch your pokemon's lv. while playing, especially if you want to head a gym leader. If your pokemon's level is 4 lv lower than the gym leader's, it will be difficult for you to win. Else if your pokemon's lv much higher than the gym leader's, you will definitely win, but it is hard and wasting time to rise your pokemon. Beside that, your game will be so easy and no challange.

You would definitely get bored. But the gyms arent that easy. Once you get deeper into the game, it'll slowly get easier.
