CHAPTER 1
?Pin Missile! Win it all Beedrill!? On his cue the bug type released the barrage of razor sharp shrapnel. The force of the blow sent the Bulbasaur flying into the opposing wall. The crowd?s roar became deafening as the judge declared Bulbasaur unable to battle. Ken?s heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest. He had just won his first League match, and with only one Pokemon.
Later...
A pair of arms grabbed the chair he was sitting in, nearly flipping it. ?What gives!?? Ken yelled. ?Hey hotshot calm down, I just wanted to say congrats on your first win!? A voice came from the back. It was Jim. ?I?ll admit I didn?t think you had much of a chance but I guess you?ll never cease to amaze me.? Jim was wearing his usual getup: a black t-shirt with the League logo, and some baggy khakis. He still had his spiked red hair. Jim lived relatively close to Ken?s hometown in Viridian City too. Just right down the street in Pallet Town. The two had met up while on Victory Road and tested each other?s skills, got into a few fistfights, and out of some tight spots. In other words Jim was a friend. ?Yeah I didn?t think you had it in you either!? Laughter followed the voice to the right. It was Lily, a Cerulean City native whose older sisters ran the local Gym. Lily grew up around Pokemon. She knew all about the water type especially, even helped Ken catch a Staryu. She was in her ?comfortable clothes? which meant a pair of old ripped shorts, a white tee, and a denim jacket. She had met up with Ken during his fight in the Cerulean Gym. She wanted to get out and see the world, and had chosen to tag along with him. Of course Ken didn?t object to a pretty girl coming along for the road.
The three were sitting in a lounge near the stadium. They had all won their matches and were guaranteed a spot in the second round. The announcers voice came on yelling out the names of trainers that needed to report for their battles. People scurried by trying to keep their schedules. The low hum of the ceiling fan could be heard over the applause from the arena and the pedestrian traffic. Jim looked up, ?Someone needs to get that dam.n thing fixed. It?s been driving me nuts since we got here!? ?But Jim we?ve only been here for a day and a half.? Said Lily laughing. Lily was always laughing; she was the most cheerful person anyone would ever meet, always happy. ?Now announcing the round two match-ups for the 141st annual Indigo League Tournament.? The announcer?s voice rang over the intercom.
Jim sprang up rushing to the boards as the results were displayed. ?Huh? Man I gotta face some nobody named Ike. Calls himself a ?Rock Pokemon Master,? man this will be soo easy!? Jim smirked boasting his usual confidence. ?I?m up against Flora of Lavender Town, she apparently uses ghosts.? Lily grabbed onto Ken?s shoulder, doing her best ghost impression. Ken cracked up. It looked like a Dunsparce caught in a blender. ?Whatssa matter? Scared of a little spook?? she said. ?Nah, just thinking about how dumb people are to be using specialized teams in a tourney where balanced ones prevail.? Ken spat. ?Wow, aren?t you the little judge. You up late reading the rulebooks?? Lily gazed at the board for a second and turned away. ?Well I?ll see you guys later, I?m gonna go get some rest!? her face was somber. ?But it?s three in the afternoon! There is still stuff to do!? Jim said. ?Let her go man, her next opponent is the favorite, that Kyle guy.? ?You mean the ?raven hair pretty boy?? The one all the girls go gaga for?? Jim remarked. ?Yeah that guy?Lily is gonna need all the help she can get tomorrow.?
