A new breakthrough in technology has given us the ability to store a person's consciousness on the internet. The procedure will allow a person to remain conscious after death on the internet permanently, or for as long as the internet exists. You can surf the web, play games, and use computers that give you access all you want. You can even talk to family members through instant messaging, etc. There is also the possibility that further technology could allow you to inhabit a robot or a clone of yourself in the future, but there's no way to know if/when that will happen. Also keep in mind that there are plenty of dangers to you in a data form, such as viruses, power/internet connection being cut off, or something happening to whatever physical drive you were being stored on, resulting in your data being erased.

Would you do this? Would you wait until you died, or do it sooner?

I would do this while I was alive (I'm seeing this as a split consciousness thing) so that way I could figure out my thoughts, not be bored when I was doing something boring, play computer games in class or whatever and just have fun I guess. I wouldn't do it after I died as that's creepy, and unnatural. Actually, I may not do it in the first place for that reason. Hm. :/ I think I'd try it, I just don't know if I'd use it.

I certainly would, as I wouldn't mind bieng immortal. Obviously there are the dangers you mentioned but if they found a way to implement a powerful Anti-Virus into your consciousness then you could be safe from weaker viruses. Considering the power cut thing, if the PC turns off there should still be a smidgeon of power in it, and if the PC is connected with a cable for the Internet, then you should be able to make it out.

This topic reminds me of the Yu-Gi-Oh Virtual World arc, when Noah Kaiba's mind was uploaded to the Virtual World after he died in a car accident. xD

Anyway, on topic: yeah, that would be pretty neat for my consciousness to be uploaded on the Internet so that I can still live on, but I'd rather wait till I die to do that.

No I wouldn't do this.. I would see it pointless to live on if everyone else around you was gone or.. if they were turn virtual as well, that you couldn't hug them, kiss them, or see them.

Death is scary but I am ok with it.

This might turn into the Lifelight situation where everyone just wants to jump into the virtual world and there is no one to monitor the outside world anymore.. causing everyone and humanity to decay slowly. Not appealing.

Huh? This is already how I am. The internet is my whole life. Unplug it and I'm basically dead.

    So.

I'd defiantly go for living in the internet after I've died, assuming the internet could still progress and change if everyone chose to go and live inside of it. As long as people were still working on the internet and creating new content then I'd be content to spending an eternity looking through the internet and seeing every little thing that it has to offer.

If it's like a Cleverbot type of thing, then yes. I would do it. If I was able to communicate with people through that, and have actual conversations with them and recall memories and give advice, answer questions, and give my opinion on something, that would be amazing.

Sure. Why not? I mean, if I'm already dead/dying then taking any risks wouldn't be such a big problem, now would it? I spend copious amounts of time on the internet anyways.

Then again, the thought of it is a bit morbid. The thought of going in when still alive and healthy, I mean.

I was thinking more along the lines of once you do this your real body is dead.

Welcome to Ghost in the shell bro
That's more or less where I got the idea. lol

Nah, I see way too many unfunny memes in my natural life. I'd rather not be a part of that machine once my time is up.

No. I just want to die and have that be it in every way possible.

I would definately do this. This seems like a very good idea to me, especially the robot thing. I think I said something like this to my mother not too long ago.

    OMG THIS.

I don't know, it's tempting, but a lot could go wrong, like you said. Viruses, connection cuts, lag. But it'd also be an inception-like thing, a world in a world. I think I'd do it. Either way, if it fails, I'd most likely end up how I should be, gone forever.

Living on the internet as an afterlife seems like a good idea. I'll still be trolled to death event when my death has happened though. XD

I would absolutely do this! I'd wait til I was on my deathbed though, I wouldn't do it while I were still alive and well. If I died suddenly in an accident then oh well, too bad I guess, but I'm not going to sacrifice my natural life for an afterlife on the internet.

I'd make sure I had someone back me up as much as absolutely possible so that any power failures wouldn't result in my untimely demise. I'd arrange all sorts of security stuff before I made the switch so that I could live as long as possible in the Internet. Then I'd just have fun and chill forever. Until they put me in a robot :3
