Question: Is it normal for supporters to see ad links injected into the page?

    Spoiler:

Enabled ads to see the new beta feature only to find that there's ads being injected directly into the page content (A big no no in my book) and not only in the sponsored links sections.

This is absolutely not normal. I'll see what's going on. For the meantime, check that you've got no adware etc. on your computer.

    EDIT: No Malware Found!

already running a scan with malwarebytes. will come back with the results soon; but I strongly suspect it's not malware, as I seldom ever get any infections.

Yeah, I'm not sure about it being malware, at least not like that, in this case. I'm seeing the same thing pop up at times on my other accounts too, but not always. Like, I see it happen on my member account, but not this one. Same browser and theme and all that.

The thread you got that screenshot from sorta answers your question really. Steve put in a new "You may also like" thing the other day and it shows you other threads you may be interested in on PC based on your browsing history or whatever. The new beta feature essentially is ads, just that the only things being advertised are PC threads. Though there's some issues sometimes with the images that pop-up because of the way tinypic handles older images or something like that.

If it bothers you, running Adblock will prevent those things from showing up. I have Adblock on and all I ever see is the "You may also like" bar.

no; that's actually irrelevant to the issue I was having. I was having a different ad-related issue where there were ads being injected where they shouldn't be injected. Whether or not this is a problem with the beta feature is only determined by hstaff. I doubt it is caused by this new feature, though there could be some settings glitches.

Oh wait are you talking about the hyperlinked text? Ignore my previous post then.

I haven't seen that shit in a long time. So yeah, pretty sure that's not supposed to happen, and idk why you're seeing now all of a sudden.

I know there has been times on my previous computer where I saw stuff like that (the hyperlink thing on the text) despite having AdBlock installed, but yeah you are correct. Supporters shouldn't normally be having this.

We do not inject extra ads into the page, nor does the "you make also like" thing.. it only links to popular existing PC content. It IS tracked and powered by Google and uses their ad servers to serve it.

The text links you may see from time to time:
Everyone should see them except supporters, mods, and red admins. They are content/context related affiliate links based on selected keywords and only show up for the first few posts or so per thread.
They will always have a double-underline and not be styled/css'd the same as the theme usually.

    Question(s) for Hstaff:

Are supporters supposed to be seeing the "Sponsered Links" too?

Are we also supposed to see both the "You may also like" and "Sponsered Links", even if we browse through PC on mobile, especially since Google Chrome for Android doesn't have a built in adblock plugin?

Do ads only fully get disabled if you are a Plat Tier Supporter?

How do the Ads work if you have more than 1 usergroup? Mine would be an example if you are not clear?

    ok simplified:
unregistered/not logged in (banned/coppa etc.) see 3 ad locations, top of page, first post in a thread page, and bottom by QR + the keyword thing
    (not counting blog pages)

admin (founder), regular users (including EO, ME, and other subgroups) see 2 ad locations (top and QR) + keyword thing

mods, supporters see QR ad location

supermods see QR location and keyword thingy (viewable for reporting reasons)

Everyone sees the "you may also like.." thing

I may have missed something but prolly not.
