Issues with Soul Silver

When I play Soul Silver on my desmume emulator (0.9.7) I can only get up to about the sprout tower. After I use the escape rope to leave It'll take me back to the town but I wont be able to move. Music will be playing but the game itself is frozen. I've also tried leaving without using the escape rope but when I do that none of the menu options on the lower screen load and when I go towards the gym I'm stopped by what looks like just a drop in the textures. Everything is black and I'm unable to move forward. Any help??

You could maybe buy the actual game, ROMS aren't fully stable especially HGSS. It's best to stick to the actual games considering they won't fall flat on you, although you could probably find an easy fix on Google.
