I'll just start by prefacing that Pokémon Gold is by far my favourite ever Pokémon game and I loved that game to bits. I bought the game when it first came out and tried to get a complete Pokédex in that game and got very, very close. I believe I got to about 247 caught/250 seen.
I hadn't played it in forever as other Pokémon games had come since then but I'd pick it up every now and then for the memories and to try to catch those damned legendary dogs.
I've since moved on to Heart Gold and I'm trying to complete the Pokédex on it in honour of my efforts on Gold (I'm nearly there at (484 seen/483 caught) but the other day I thought I'd turn on Gold just to check it out.
I get to the start screen and BAM. New Game or Options. My save file has been wiped. ~500 hours gone. The game has always been kept in perfect condition so it's simply a case of age; I fired up Red to check if that had gone too but it's still there.
I'm not too disappointed as the games are about 10 years old now so it's inevitable that the battery will go at some point but I still can't help but feel a little sad at all that time and effort put into my favourite Pokémon game now gone forever. Anyone else lost their save files from the old Gameboy games or are theirs still going strong?
