Yay another car-related poll from yours truly!

Have you ever been stranded on the side of the road for any reason, such as a car accident or mechanical problem? It can be something that happened while you were either the driver or as a passenger in the vehicle.

It happened for me once, on I-26 about 10 miles southeast of Columbia, SC. We ran over road debris and cut a tire, and my dad had to change it in 90+ degree heat. At the time they were driving a Chevy Suburban where the spare tire was mounted on a bracket underneath the rear of the truck, and let me tell you, he did NOT like having to mess around trying to free the tire from the frame. That took almost 30 minutes by itself. He was irritable for the remainder of the trip and I don't think I spoke a word to him at all, lol.

I was also with my mom when some idiot on a moped slammed into the back of us, but since it happened when we were turning into a grocery store parking lot, I wouldn't exactly call that being "stranded" xD

This is one of the many reasons why I refuse to learn how to drive a car, so that I won't have to deal with issues like this. At least, not anywhere near as much.

To answer your question, I don't really remember having those happen whenever I'm a passenger. Maybe those are something that I'd rather not remember...

I've been in multiple buses that broke down back in middle/high school.

In addition the summer before college one of the cars on the way to Otakon broke down on the side of the road. We had to call AAA to get it fixed. It was kind of expensive for the guy whose car broke. >_o

When I was abroad a few months ago, I did most of my travelling around the US via buses, and they all travelled through the night so that I could save on accommodation costs. One of the final buses that I took was from New York to Philadelphia: a journey that should have lasted two hours. As I was planning to sleep on the bus, it was never going to be a great journey in any event... and then the bus broke down along the way! However, in a wonderful case of silver linings, the parts took about three hours to arrive from New York, so I managed to double my sleep on the bus and get into Philly at the reasonable hour of 5am instead of 3am! So I was kinda happy the bus broke down. I have a feeling, however, that I was probably the only person to feel that way, given the disgruntled looks the rest of the passengers gave the driver once we finally arrived.

Yeah, this happened to me once, about six months or so ago. I was driving my friend home and all of a sudden I noticed my car was slowing down and the accelerator wasn't working. Only I couldn't pull over or anything because I was in the right line (remembering that in Australia we drive on the left of the road) and approaching a roundabout. So I stopped about 5 metres away from a roundabout and was stranded there for a good half hour while we waited for a tow truck. My Dad also came in his cop car, which helped when people thought it'd be funny to slow down specifically to laugh at me (one group of teenagers sped by me laughing, then turned around and came back specifically to do it again lmao).

That wasn't a fun day. I got home a lot later than expected and had to get my radiator fixed (or replaced, one or the other) the next day :(

Both cars that I've owned were just full of issues...

I guess the worst time was when my ignition was acting up and decided it would just turn my car off, while I was in the middle of driving down the road, and would not turn back on. Luckily I was able to turn the car (without power-steering, mind you) into the driveway of some kind of storage business with the amount of momentum it had left. No one was answering my phone calls either... sucky night, but my dad eventually came and rescued me.
