It's Testing Time - Exams or Essays?

Since it's getting close to the time of year when a lot of us are having exams (me included! >_<), I thought I'd do a themed poll on this subject. ;)

Which do you prefer as a method of assessment - exams or essays?

And when you do an essay, do you write it over a long period of time, or do you leave it until the last night because you work better under pressure?

For me, I have to say it depends on the subject - I'd much rather write an essay on some things, but on others, I prefer exams since they're so much quicker and get things over and done with faster!

And I work over a long period of time - I'm useless at working under pressure since I always try and distract myself by doing other things!

I prefer exams, but sometimes I have both since I go to a private school. Their standards are higher than regular schools...

i prefer it when they make us do projects or presentations. i like being allowed to be creative and i have no issue with public speaking (unlike my peers, so i look good by comparison)

First let me point out that my finals/exams are now over. It started on Friday and just ended today, leaving me with one more day of sch00l. (tomorrow is gonna be a g00d yet sad day.. T00 many of my friends wont be in my sch00l next year.. -_- Long story)

Anyways.....

For me, I have to say it depends on the subject - I'd much rather write an essay on some things, but on others, I prefer exams since they're so much quicker and get things over and done with faster!

The same goes for me. It all depends on the subject really. Well.. I am more of a writer, but this year we only had one essay and the rest was complete matching and multiple choice, so I go for the exams this time. Though, in another situation, I'm all for essays since I write them relatively fast and with little errors.

as much as i hate exams, i hate essays even more. of course, some of our exams have essays, but that is to be expected when you go to a college prep school.

Likely essays since we get to have all our materials and research right in front of us as we write it. With exams, you don't get anything (unless it was my art exam last year -- we had to write an essay and he let us write all our notes on a cheat sheet XD). Almost all the exams in my school require an essay question of sorts, so if I said exam I'd be picking both. o_O

Well, personally, I like to take a test because I can study for it and stuff and it's easy to memorize things for me. I don't really mind doing essays, though, because they don't take me that long.

Essays let you be creative, and do your own research. They can help you find your own interests and put your own twist on things ^^

Mwar, that's exactly the point I prefer in them O_O;;

I never did well on essays, mwar, and avoided them at any opportunity. I always prefer the exams, where I don't need an elabourate answer [not that I ever liked exams either :P]

It's been interesting looking at these results! Seems a lot of people prefer exams at the moment!
I think I'm leaning toward essays, thinking about it more...since in exams you can totally go blank and forget everything you've learned, whereas in essays you can just simply look it up! :D

Essays are really annoing and so are Exams but Exams are easier so I like Exams more then Essays O_o

I like exams better. I've never been the biggest fan of essays, and I've disliked them even more ever since the one english class I took where I had to write an essay nearly every single class period... :P Ick.
