Keiri

Well, this is an older picture that I drew, but I'm still happy with its results, so I figured that I would post it here. ^_^;

It's a picture of my made-up character, Keiri. 'Keiri' is supposedly my name in Japanese, and so I decided to use it as her name. I haven't drawn any other pictures of her yet, but I think that this will be her final look. I'd like to include her in one of my manga books.

Anyways, I'd like to color this picture sometime soon, and if I do, I'll post up a colored picture for you all. For now, though, I'd like to hear your opinions!

By the way - I think I messed up on writing her name. The first character should be a little bit different. I think I spelled, 'Kairi'. (What a coincidence, lol.)

Wow! Magninfique! Its really cool! *coughPrettycough* XD
Is she like ya?

Well, maybe a little bit. ^_^; My mom said that we seemed to favor; she told me that it was a good design for my character. I think that her hair is a lot like mine. The bangs, and the length is almost exactly like mine. It's funny... Now that I look at her picture, I think that she looks somewhat like the girl in my avatar, and I drew this a long time ago!

Exactly how old is this picture?!
Wow.... now I remember how I met you, hehe.

It's really nice....
I haven't seen any of her other looks, so I can't judge between the different versions, but I think this one is more then worthy of being your final draft.
You make Manga books? With sketches like these, I would be suprised if you didn't consider it.

Ah, and I only know like one or two words in Japanese, so I can't help you there, sorry.
*sweatdrops*

It's nice to see your artwork again, by the way!

Yeah! It matches with your avatar!

Gian (Me): Look a frog!
Alex (My Friend): Hoowaa! He's atatcking me!
Marvin (another friend): Lets kill him!
Gian: Noooo!
Marving: Its The Destiny! Its The Destiny!*

Hey Kay, Its The Destiny! Its The Destiny! XD

Thank you! (And that goes to everyone, by the way.)

The picture is several months old; I'm not really sure how many, but it's been quite a while. I gave a copy to my grandmother, and she's had it hanging in the living room for forever, lol.

I don't really have an 'official' manga book or anything, but I draw little comics for fun. My friends and I have our own made-up characters, and I draw them, (Usually in the Pokemon world, with our own Pokemon) then give a copy to everyone! ^_^ It's neat.

I really don't know very much Japanese, either, ehe. My penpal in Japan just taught me how to write my name, and Satoshi-kun told me how to say it, so that's how I know!

By the way, if you notice any wierd looking lines on the drawing, it's because I had to use that white-out stuff, and then draw over the mistakes, so it looks funny. x_x

And it's no small wonder why she has, it's really good! You use professional art supplies, right?

Ah, me too! I started way back when I was seven, and I've made a few issues of it. They're nothing extraordinary, but I did work hard to make them. My friends and I even used to make joint issues, where our characters met (though we never actually dot around to finishing them...). I haven't made another one of my comics for a long while, but I've been seriously thinking about starting it up again this summer. Maybe, if I can finally hook my scanner up, I can show all of you! But don't expect too much, hehe.

So Keiri is your Japanese name? Hmm, I wonder what mine is.... if they have a Japanese name for Jordan, hehe.

Eh? White-out? I didn't notice anything.....
Do you mean where the lines end at times?

Oh, and do you take drawing classes?

My grandmother is a really big fan of my art; everyone in my family supports me with my drawings, so it's kind of nice. ^_^; They all want me to be an artist when I'm older.

Well, whenever I can find them. We don't have any art stores nearby; only in Dallas, which is two hours away. x_x But, whenever I have the chance, I buy those 'Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens'. It's what I used on this picture. They work really nicely, especially for comic books, because they write and draw very smoothly. It's because of the Pigment ink, which is a better quality than the others that you can just buy anywhere. Other pens kind of mess up and smear, but these don't. The nice thing about them is that they're cheap, too! They're only about $7, and you get four pens with different points for different styles of drawing. (I sound like I know a lot about artist supplies, but I really don't, lol. I can only tell you about those certain pens.)

I don't really end up finishing most of mine either, unless they're very short. XD It just takes so much time, especially drawing the frames. They're so difficult, and if you want it to look nice, it's best to draw them all different sizes so it will look more like a real manga book.

I'd like to see some of your drawings! I bet they're very good.

I bet that you can find out your Japanese name. Just ask Satoshi-kun; he could probably figure it out! I know your Hawaiian name, by the way. ^_^; It's 'Iolakana'. I found it off of a neat Hawaiian site with different name translations. Mine is 'Kaileikehe'. They have about a million names on that website. It's neat!

I deliberately left in some parts where the lines end, but on some parts it looks kind of bumpy. I guess it's not too noticeable though; it just bugs me since I drew it, lol.

And nope, I've never taken an art class before. I've had to teach myself... I'd love to take one some day, though. What about you?

Aww...Did you use screen tone shady thingys on the eyes? Thanks.
Well, I just sketched it myself. ^_^; I was going for the Tokyo Mew Mew look. I love how the character's eyes look in that manga. I just drew the shape of the eye first, and then the little shines on the top, then I colored around it in black. After that, I started to sketch down until most of the eye looked as if it had some color.

I adore how Anime eyes look! They're just so pretty; maybe it's because they're big, with noticeable eyelashes, and you can see the color really well. That's just my opinion. I love to draw them.

I'd like to see some of your drawings! Do you make up characters, and use the Anime style?

I also like to draw animals, especially marine life, like dolphins. Though, it would be more fun to paint those. My grandparents are having one of their rooms in their new house painted like an ocean! It's really neat; the artist just started today, and I saw it this morning. I love how it looks. It's very pretty - She even included orcas, my favorite animals!

You really seem to have a natural talent for drawing, so I can see why your family is behind you so much (though I'm sure they would support you just as much if you didn't, hehe). With drawings like these, you're well on your way to be a wonderful artist when you get older! If, you want to that is!

I've been stuck using a #2 pencil for so long now, I really should consider looking into those pens. The pencils really make me mess up a lot, so a pen that doesn't smudge would be a nice change (and they come at a good price!). Heh, well, your pens are one more drawing utensil that you know of, that I had no idea about, hehe.

Yeah, I have good intentions when I start, but never actually see it all the way through to the end. I never spend too much time on frames. (my comics don't look Japanese in any way, shape, or form, hehe) I just grab a ruler and make four horizontal lines and one vertical line right down the middle to make eight little squares. Quick and effective, hehe, though there are parts in the stories that I really wish I would've taken time to draw the borders in different shapes.

If there's one thing I'm proud of, it's my characters. All the comics are really silly, blended in with a little bit of action (The main character is a superhero, after all hehe). The stories start out with just a pair of characters, Super Monkey, and Mr., (Yes, Mr., is his name, hehe. He's a little shaggy dog) but more are revealed as the comics progress. Bah, I'll just have to show you sometime; it's hard to explain!

I'd feel a little awkward asking him like that, hehe, but he does come on AIM at times, so I'll see about that. Oh... oh, wow! That is neat! Iolakana! I can sort of see a resemblence between Kayleigh and Kaileikeke, (Just a little, hehe) but I don't see much of a resemblence between mine..... ah, who cares! I like it, hehe. Do they mean anything?
Thank you, by the way!

I guess that's how the old saying goes: "You're your worst critic". You know the mistakes you made, so they really only bother you.

You haven't taken an art class? Yow, that makes the picture all the more impressive, hehe. I'm taking an art class next year. I was taking bandm but my director wasn't a very nice guy, so I'm following another path now. I'm just hoping it can help me improve on my drawing skills.

And I really need to think about taking a typing class too. As you can see, I'm the slowest typer ever, hehe.

To answer Kayleigh's ?, I do make up characters.
I have about 17 of them. They're a part of a project called "Tokyo Hime". I'm attempting to find other artists, so if you'd like to help pm me.
Lol, sorry bout that.

I really like how you drew the eyes to. She has a really nice design and I like how the hair comes down like that.
Yeah I've made some characters before and my family thinks that some are me or like me so I never give any of my characters my name though I forgot what my name is in Japanese XD though sometimes I want to name one with my name. I guess I'm not the only one that makes characters like with bits of myself like you make your one like with bits of yourself. And again nice picture and I like your name it goes great with her I wounder what your name is in english.

Definitely! It's my favorite hobby. ^_^; I seem to do it all of the time. I think that it would be best for me if I chose a career in art, because then, I would never feel like I was working, and I would be getting paid for doing something that I love!

Yeah, pencils are okay if you have a nicer brand, but just getting any old kind won't really work. (Especially if you're left-handed, like me...) They smear really easily, and you have to sharpen them a lot if you want your picture to look nice. The same thing goes for pens, too; when you're looking for any good ones, then you should try to get the kind with the 'pigment' ink. It doesn't smear, and once it's dry, you can paint on it, or whatever you like, without having to worry about the ink bleeding onto the rest of your picture.

Drawing frames and borders and everything can become a huge hassle, because it takes so much time, and you usually have to draw some sort of draft for your comic before you start. But, it's worth it once you're done, because it looks so professional.

I'd like to see some of your characters! I love making them up myself. Chrystie and I have made up our own characters, and they're going to be in one of my Pokemon manga books. (Keiri is mine.) Hopefully, everything will turn out alright. I think it will be really cute!

You're welcome! And well, I could ask him for you. I talk to him sometimes.
I'm not really sure if they mean anything or not... Probably. I'll have to check!

Ah, cool. I bet you'll do a good job in art class. Maybe when I'm older I can take one; my mom and grandmother keep mentioning it, but we can't find anyone around here that gives lessons.

My mom bugs me about my typing, ehe. I type a bit differently than how you're supposed to, and it gets on her nerves. She even bought me a program for the computer that is supposed to help me learn how to do it properly, lol.

Ah, cool. I'd love to help you out! I'm afraid that all I would have time to do is help you make up characters, though, and draw some of them. I couldn't draw part of the manga, atleast not now. I'm working on my own, and with PC, and other real life things, I'm pretty busy! ^_^; But yeah, if you need any help on making up characters then just ask me.

Ah, thank you! You could ask Satoshi-kun, like I mentioned earlier to Jordan. He's really good with that kind of stuff.
And yeah, it is fun to base characters off of yourself. I always do that during RPs and when I'm making comic books. It just seems to make you feel like you're in the story yourself, and you get better ideas on a lot of things. That's just my opinion, though.

My name in English is Kayleigh, by the way. ^_^; I guess that wasn't too hard to figure out, lol. I just decided to use it as my screen name here.

Thank you! I'll be posting more of my drawings soon, as soon as I'm done with them. It shouldn't take too much longer; I'm drawing more pictures of Keiri, and some of my other characters.

(Wow, I typed a lot. o_o)

Hey Kay-Kay (XD) When is that "shouldnt take much longer" ends?
I wanna see more! =3

Wows Kayleigh! That's a stunning pic! It looks just perfect! I love the eyes and the hair and clothing work so well! Your artwork has come on leaps and bounds, your really doing some breath-taking stuff! I simply love how you keep the contours and thickness of the lines to match the shape. Just like in animes and mangas! Just amazing *applaudes*
