    hey. is there a way i can copy the sims? my cd is getting scratched and i dont wanna ruin it. I only wanna make a legal backup for personal use.

    Sims Wont let you copy it, it has Anti-Burn Stuff on it, so it'll never make a copy, Everytime I do it at least, it says Cannot Copy Software Legally...

    i just wanna make a backup... i can get a cd cracker

    Sure, it's able to be copied.
    Alcohol 120% could do it, without a problem.
    The Sims uses SafeDiscv1/2
    So set Alcohol to copy SafeDisc and provided your burner is capable, you're on your way.

    i cracked it by hand. not too hard XD

    Err, what she said. On the rare occasions I play computer games, I usually just use Alcohol to mount it on one of those virtual drives; I hate messing with CDs. ._.;

    Sorry Kairi XD feel like I'm taking away your job.
    Oops.

    LOL, it's generally legal to make one copy of a computer program for personal use (backup), but it depends on where you live. For some reason, you're not allowed to back up a DVD or music CD...

    You *can* backup a music CD. But not a DVD.
    Wanna know why? Because making a personal backup is legal.
    Reverse Engineering is highly illegal.
    And to copy something with protection, such as a DVD, you need to use tools that are based upon reverse engineering of the security code.
    Same goes for games.
    However I think it's a load of BS to try and stop me copying my own games. I'm so not taking an original copy of a $100 game to a LAN. Sorry, aint happening.
    So yeah. I copy what I paid for, reverse engineered or not :D

    Edit: yes. I am an idiot who likes to Reserve Engineer :P

    Nah. I can still impress em on MSN. XP I didn?t know what the Sims uses anyways, like I said I rarely play PC games, probably cause I suck at FPS?s. ._.

    I find backing up DVDs a pain, I always get confused on to run them off the hard drive. Mmeh. Don?t watch enough movies to learn anyways.

    DVDShrink is all I use to copy DVD's.
    It's an awesome lil 700kb piece of software.
    Takes about 80 minutes in total from start of read to end of burn.
    Of course, I only back up what I own.
    Yes.
    Yes, that will do :D

    I don't have a DVD drive anyway XD. I've been going through copyright law stuff, let me find you a couple of articles. But in Australia making a copy of a music CD *is* still illegal, even if people don't know it.

    That?s what I used too, but I had a hard time getting powerDVD to play it back correctly. >.>; Of course of all times for be to have a burner when those dual layer ones are coming out soon. o.x;

    a1337a, it's Reverse Engineering, ;P

    What OS do you have? Linux? Mac? Windows? Mac OS X? I can't help you if I don't know your OS, so I can request tools to use.

    ~PGN, Rippin' MY games and movies!

    Even though you're not askign me, I?ve got an emulated OS X, and XP on this machine. I have a Knoppix disc around here somewhere? o.o;

    And lol, I didn?t catch that. *giggles* Reserve engineering.

    Oops.

    heh...if only more people did that...meh meh meh

    I think it's still illegal to burn Copyright Protected hardware, whether you use it only for yourself or not.

    It?s illegal but I have no moral issues with it really. *shrug* o.o;

    *looks up* Oh crap
    How did I mess THAT up?

    I know its reverse engineering.
    I'd just woken up when I made that post, so leave me alone :P
