Suggestion: Merchandise Section?

I got this idea from a thread I saw in Pokemon Voting Polls. A Pokemon Merchandise section! I mean, it would fit well. Like a Pokemon collection, merchandise, etc. I know some people collect stuff like this, and it might be cool. It would fit great where the Pokemon General and TGC sections are, I forgot what sub-forum thingy they're in. Would anyone like this? I would love to see it happen. Thoughts?

I like the idea, but I don't think it would really take off activity-wise. There's currently one thread in PGen about it, and it's not very active at all relative to other threads in there. If there's not even just one really active thread on it, there's no need to have an entire section dedicated to it imo. :( If you can drum up some activity on it, be my guest though!

I hope more people would see it, since it's only in the PVP semi-section. There also could be discussions on obtaining stuff, trading them, etc. I am quite positive this is popular, as of what I've seen. Would sig advertising be a bad thing? Because I post quite often, and some people would click on it if they see it in my sig.

No sig advertising is perfectly okay! Although trading of merchandise falls under selling I believe which isn't allowed on PC for legal purposes. I'm sure it would be a possibility if there were a lot of threads pertaining to merchandise.

The main problem with trading/selling actual physical goods is that there is always the factor that someone doesn't keep their end of the bargain, and complains to us that so and so stole this and wants a refund to make up, or something along those lines. This is pretty much why we have that rule in place iirc.

But if you're talking about a general section to show off your goods, I'd say condense it into a thread and put it in the General Pokemon section. A section for that is not likely to generate more activity than a normal thread would, and it's not like organization is much of an issue since each user's collection would be focused into their respective main post.

Although, I like the idea, I think that if a trade did go wrong, we would be the ones to get the blame, even if rules stated we had nothing to do with it.

Bottom line is, there are many sites which do facilitate this request much better than we could ever do, only difference would be is we have a face community.​

We are a community. And there already is a thread, just people don't really see it.

Yes, I know, I said we had a community.

I think if people wanted it, they would look for it. Maybe I am way off, but as I said, there are better places that facilitate it.​

There are a few things I have to say about this (because I love collecting merchandise):

1) Since the thread we have on collecting isn't all that active, I find it hard to imagine a forum ever would be. Especially since said forum...

2) ...would be merely for "showing off" online. Or asking questions about "where to buy?" We have a pretty strict no buying/selling/trading rule in place which we've enforced on Pokemon TCG for a long time and that would have to apply to this one too. We've actually discussed it in the past but it's essentially a unanimous decision from the higher staff that we just don't want the added stress of trying to police things like scamming or deal breaking when real money has changed hands. D:

3) Maybe consider making a Pokemon Group for collectors? It might do better than the poll version and people tend to get pretty cosy in clubs so they'd keep coming back for discussion and it wouldn't be as weird to post "collection updates" somewhat regularly and so on.

That said, I don't think we as a forum could ever complete with the already-established collecting community [pkmncollectors @ livejournal] without a LOT of work and enthusiasm toward the subject and we simply don't have that here. :( I think PC is better suited toward making friends on PC who collect rather than bringing in collectors and that's why I suggest a club/group as a possible new home for a collecting thread.
