I've never tried doing any glitch before, since I'm overly cautious about my games. But I'm retiring my Gen 1/2 games in a little while, and before I do that I'm trying to stockpile a whole bunch of things in my Crystal version. For example, a full pokedex, TM/HM inventory, legends from each generation, various teams I've created, etc.

I want a Mew to at least complete the pokedex up to 250, I'm not interested in risking side effects of bad clones in getting Celebi. But as for Mew, if the glitch works and I trade it to Crystal, will there be any risk to the Crystal game or is the risk only for the game that performs the glitch? Put another way, I know glitches have risks, including this one. But if it works correctly, is the risky part over? I have a Red pak I don't mind risking, but I don't want anything to happen to the Crystal version.

Well, I used a transfer pak with Pokemon Stadium 2 to transfer my Mew to Crystal, and nothing bad came of it, so I doubt that trading will either. ;)

IMO, the Mew trick is one of the safest tricks out there, considering I used it to capture every Pokemon that isn't normally available in Yellow. All of these were present for a full run-through of Crystal, with no side-effects.

Doubt it will affect your Crystal. Ask these questions in the Simple Question and Answers thread.
