MSN Plus- MSN Messenger Add-On

...there's a point to this? O_o; This strikes me as sheer advertising as MSN makes money out of Messenger Plus.
*LOCKED*

This can stay open; Plus! is a freeware application that simply adds on to Messenger. In fact, it doesn't really help them much since you can opt to take out the ads, I think. o_O Unless I'm thinking of something else. *shrug*

Anyway, this seems to have been meant more as a discussion thread than blatant advertising anyway, so I'll reopen. ^_^;

MSN Plus gives you ads? If it does, that explains all the pop-ups I've been getting. How do I remove the adds?

._. *shouldn't have said anything* No, it doesn't. o_O MSN comes with ads by default, does it not? As in, that ad at the bottom of one's friends list.

*may be thinking of another hack for MSN that removes them* If that's the case, ignore my other post; I need sleep. <_<

Tch. Thought so myself -- it ain't advertisin' as long as it's free software. Plus it's phun. ^_^

Yeah, I have it. Tch, Lil' Schu made me get it. She wa pretty mandatory 'bout it too.
Get it!
Now!
Tch, I guess her insistence was a good thing after all. ^^;;
Yesh, tch, it offers alot of phun features, plus some useful ones. Phun ones that I like include name colouring an' sounds.
*cough* Anyone who has it will know that I've done abused my microphone with it in tha same way in which I've abused my webcam in the Pictures Of You Thread.
Lol, I was surprised ta see how many ppl are usin' my sounds. Tch, guess I'll have ta thank you all for that. ^^;;

As for useful features, well I see MSN Plus supports away messages an' personalized statusses, which now render MSN statusses useless an' a potential target for MSN SPAM! XD Another feat I've found useful is the event log. Tch, I kinda like ta know when/if certain contacts have been online and when.

I'm online 24/7 on MSN anyways, tch, so I guess that log's pretty useful. ^^

*sigh* But it's also a bit buggy... just like MSN itself is... -_-
Eh. My opinion? It's worth it. Tch, makes chats alot more phun. XD *runs over to record more st00pid-ness*

Yes, MSN Messenger comes with ads. I know that previous versions of Plus! would remove the ads. Recently, I think that Plus isn't doing that anymore because the ads are coded into the software differently since MSN 7, and Patchou (the programmer) doesn't want to take business away from Microsoft (they've been rather nice to him lately).

I just redownloaded and reinstalled it on my laptop, and both times I've installed it with the sponsor program, Avast detects a Trojan called "Win32:Trojan-gen.{Other}" being installed, and Zone Alarm Pro sounds a major alert. ClamWin and AVG don't detect it, though. Must just be set too high on the sensitivity levels, but you might want to watch it.

I like it. I used it quite a bit after the first download, and it's really useful for saving chat logs for clan stuff. The "Boss Protection" is my most used item, since I need it when I'm out of my room and talking about clan stuff.

Thanks for the link, though. I love it.

The MSN Plus program had Adware last year when we had it. And when my sister got rid of it and still had it, she kept getting messages in her e-mail client saying:
"The message to _____@____.___/.___ has failed to send."

It's useless if all of the nerds or normal people who use normal MSN. You can't see the colour or hear sounds. [sarcasm]Big loss.[/sarcasm]
Instead, you have all of those people who use it (When they could be using ICQ) and you have to decode what their colour name says. What if people don't have their sound on? That's useless.

I imagine it would also get annoying if someone was trying to do an assignment or something that needed sound (such as RM23K) and you kept getting pummeled with "I'll Be Back" sound messages or other ones while you're trying to talk to your friend and do RM23K.

I installed it once, and I seemed to get hacked or something straight away (I wasn't using a firewall, and my mouse went totally out of control) so I restarted my computer and uninstalled it -_- It might be more secure now, this was a couple of years ago.

That's strange... tch, I've never had any security problems with it, an' even though I only have it for 2 weeks it's been 2 weeks of non-stop uptime, leaving it on even when I'm away. It's even stranger when my Microsoft AntiSpyware detected it as a threat... o_O

I installed it, nothing happened to me... ;D

Josh, I believe you can disable automatic play of sounds.
