so when a pokemon has more than one ability.. does it always have both, or does each pokemon of that specie have one of the abilities? i kinda need an arena-trapping dugtrio to kick richard steel's metagross ;)!

A Pokémon can only have one ability. You just have to hope you catch a Pokémon with the ability you want.

An ability is randomly assigned, just keep breeding until you get the right nature and ability. Dugtrio is a beast of a pokemon though, I might train myself one.

yea, and its not really OU is it?
where would you spend the EVs on? actually it's fast enough, so perhaps rather max out hp (and attack of course) instead of speed?

the only way a Pokemon will have 2 abilities is in Pokemon MD or if you cheat

You want dugtrio to be a sweeper, so you basically go for speed and attack there are two optional sets, look below:

    Dugtrio @ Choice Band
    Ability: Arena Trap
Nature: Jolly (Out speeds adamant pokemon, such as meta)
    EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Speed / 6 HP
    Moveset:
    - Earthquake
    - Stone Edge / Rock Slide (For flinchhax and accuracy)
    - Aerial Ace
    - Shadow Claw / Night Slash (As a surprise to ghosts and/or darks such as weavile) / Pursuit

You may ask, why is pursuit there, well that is because pokemon with the levitate ability are immune to arena trap, so any azelfs will be owned by pursuit.

    OR

    Dugtrio @ Choice Band
    Ability: Arena Trap
Nature: Jolly (Out speeds adamant pokemon, such as meta)
    EVs: 252 Atk / 200 Speed (As nature is +Spd) / 58 HP
    Moveset:
    - Earthquake
    - Stone Edge / Rock Slide
    - Aerial Ace
    - Shadow Claw / Night Slash / Pursuit
