4th Gen Nintendo Wi-Fi capabilities on pokemon Diamond/Pearl

    Today i am thinking of buying either pokemon diamond or pearl as the pokemon bug has just bitten me again after a few years of not playing.

    But i was just confused about what you can do with this nintendo Wi-Fi and what it means.

    Does it mean you can battle people across the net just from your DS? or

    Would some of you who know alot about it be able to fill me in on its "things you can do with it"
     
    u can battle ppl, trade, chat i think
    all through wifi
    wireless internet, or if u dont have wireless
    buy the nintendo wireless thingy (forget what its calle) for like 35 bucks, and u can play wireless when its plugged into your computer : D

    So you can battle people all over the world and put your pokemon to the ultimate test? is there like a ranking system or anything?
